He bashed the Storm flegg side in his last Flegg game. I'd give him Leota's spot and minutes and let him rip in. Speed, power and hits hard just let him go.

Good signing. Let Peachey get sorted over the off season

That would be perfect. Leota has a nothing job anyway. Perfect for the young bloke to get a feel for first grade without pressure.

Nope much better off playing big mintues in NSW cup. If he comes up it should only be for a game or 2

Yeah Leota offers nothing. Put a kid that can rip it

Oh no conflicting opinions. I can see benefit to both sides.

Just figured a little bit of time to get the hang of things would do him good since our issue is players stepping up. Maybe alternating between the two grades to learn and work on things.

I’d give him a game or two off the bench and go from there. He might rip it up and be impossible to not pick. Likely he will come up and then go back down, i think that’s a good way to ease kids in. Also if someone gets dropped for him it might fire them up to find some form, swap them back after a week or two and it might benefit both players.

Guess it does depend on the player and Ivan has got it right before. No one had Yeo anywhere near 1st grade when he picked him

Yep put him up sgainst Leilua in the centres on debut, was a big show of faith in Yeo at the time.

Both Ivan and Griffin have pretty much nailed most of the debuts while here, we get them ready for FG well we just struggle to take them to the next level.

2 Games to give him a taste and know what he is aiming for week to week down the track. Then get him playing big minutes in NSW cup. Really test how big his motor is.

This kid looks promising however I am very guarded in my optimism. You can see highlights of Moses Leota absolutely tearing it up in U20's, powering through the opposition, even putting on a step, scoring tries etc. Come first grade and all of a sudden the Demi-God looks very mortal.

Listen to Gus's podcast. Moving on highly paid players, or "trading them out" as he calls it is what he considers to be good cap management and one of the reasons you build a good junior development process. If you are lucky and get a few good juniors coming through you trade out selected expensive players and bring in a cheaper junior. Obviously, this only works if you have an eye on the experience in the team and you select the right players to move on. It would seem to me that Blake and DWZ fit that category exactly. Expensive, unlikely to improve further, not game breakers or best in their position. They are perfect candidates to be moved on. The Roosters moved on Pearce and RTS when it suited them, two players better than anything we have now or have had for the last five years. When we signed Blake and DWZ we took a punt they would go to the next level and their contracts reflected this. As Gus said, when you do that and it doesn't come off you "trade them out".

This is not a shitfight, or terrible management. It's what clubs do with their rosters to try and maximise the value from the cap and keep the club fresh and competitive. In the past we would have kept both these players and let them stink up the place with their overpaid mediocrity, whilst watching a young promising junior leave because there are no opportunities at the Panthers.

It is almost impossible to know what players will go to the next level, or who will just flat line. When Blake was re-signed we all cheered, the same with DWZ. Did either of them go on to earn their upgrades? The answer is no, so see you later boys thanks for the memories, move on, nothing to see here.

Roster management is a business process with no place for sentimentality. We trade, we sometimes pay top ups, we sometimes get a better player ourselves that is part paid by another club. Every club does it.

I think the management at Panthers sucks with the way it has managed coaching appointments, but I have absolutely no issue with the club managing the roster this way. Provided of course, they do sign or keep better or cheaper equivalents players in their place.

The theory is solid, and the DWZ/Blake situation are probably examples of it being applied well, however over his 8 years with us Gus and his appointments have largely failed to appropriately apply the theory in Practice.

Just look at how much our spine has chopped and changed since Gus has come to us. I don't think any other club has had as much movement in the spine as we have other than the truly struggling clubs. Gus's appointments in these key positions have been met with failure after failure

Yeah it is hard want to keep a stable spine. Good prop. Good backrower. Need some class out wide kinda like the way the storm have done it
we need a that prop, Tamou is great, but we need one that bends that line everytime, my suggestion is we move Kikau to lock, and JFH and Tamou are our props, the rotation of Leota and RCG will keep that trucking
We had our forwards steam roll everyone early last year, before RCG became "glass jaw" before origin II.
He'll get better and be back to his best in a year or 2, but im not seeing the value of kikaus edge running, when he can tire out THEIR middles, we have our own taumalolo, but we waste him on an edge, and now we have a brand new actual taumalolo, Spencer.
Liam martin and Yeo, are the 2nd rowers, get them there, have Kikau turn up in the middle
This one off egde running cant last, teams will sort out how to minimize it, but if you tire their middles, kikau has a direct route to the try line

Id have the current team, like this

1.Edwards
2.Mansour
3.Naden
4.Whare
5.To'o
6.Luai
7.Cleary
8.JFH
9.Maloney
10.Tamou
11.Martin
12.Yeo (C)
13.Kikau

14.Kenny (utility Hooker/Lock)
15.Winterstien
16.Leota
17.RCG

Now Winterstien is key, he replaces any backs that go down, by pushing Yeo into centres, or Whare to F/B

If Peachey returns, at perminent centre, Naden goes to the wing,Mansour is dropped

Those monsters in the middle just need to keep tight around jimmy in defence, and jimmy takes the hits as he does, slows them down or atleast is the drawing target, the forwards will take them down to the ground, keep the opposion running in the middle, and when kenny comes on, jimmy can play to the edges, and whichever back thats had a average game can come off, or at lock to give a fwd a rest, main thing is rotation in fwds gives us an advantage, plus cleary and luai as halves settling as a backline.
Maloney is like Wallace, he has better control of the game from dumy half, just like cameron smith does, but playing outside cleary has stunted his impact. He needs hands on ball before cleary, like wallace did.
Can u imagine how many dummy half scoots he would have then have Cleary, Kikau and Luai as 1st options. Not to mention Field Goal city straight from dummy half, he'd be slotting them everytime he'd get to the forty.
.... penrith panthers win 39-0 ....1 try by kikau, convertion by cleary, 23 field goals by Maloney, 5 penalty conversations by Maloney

No doubt we have to be careful. Funny you mention Leota, this kid looks like the style of prop I was hoping Leota would turn out to be.

Anyway this kids 18 and tearing it up against grown men in nsw cup, he’s further ahead than Moses at the same age.

Watch him play tomorrow then you will see what he has

I've set it to record on the Foxtel.

2 Games to give him a taste and know what he is aiming for week to week down the track. Then get him playing big minutes in NSW cup. Really test how big his motor is.

A good strategy to develop him. He has plenty of time.

Yeah it would be nice if they kicked on.

There's some good in here(Yeo/Martin back row particularly) but Maloney at hooker and Maloney the goal kicker
