I think Shawn was unlikely to break into the NRL this season if he had stayed with us given we have no shortage of back rowers. An opportunity presents at the West Tiger’s where he a greater chance of first grade in the near future so he has asked for a release. Good luck to him.

So you let another backrower go. Problem solved.

I’m not a keep everyone type of person, you need to let some go. But I’m stunned we’ve let Blore go without seeing what he can do in first grade.

This kid has been a star at every level he’s played at, I’d sooner let someone else go.
So was Vaipuna Tia Kilifi, as was Daniele Penese, As was Bryce Cartwright and the list goes on, a star in the juniors doesn’t transfer into a star in the seniors,

Of course it doesn’t, but you give them a shot before you punt them. And Blore wasn’t just a star, he was pretty much the best player in every team he was in.

As were all the rest Cartwright in particular but to be honest I’m glad he’s on the Gold Coast not here

Time will tell if this was a good move. Was a star as a kid but ACL followed by no NSW Cup this year put him behind the 8 ball

We release our highest rated junior before seeing if he can kick on in the NRL and people are defending that decision?

There was no risk in keeping him on his modest contract and seeing if he kicks on. Releasing him now is a much bigger risk. It works out great for Shawn and the Tigers. But not for us.

How so he was so far down the list? Coming off ACL injury. No NSW Cup once he agreed to WT there was no point keeping him. Especially with restrictions on how many players can train now

I see it as a move which had to happen when you carefully weigh things up. Say if we kept Blore on, and he again injures himself...our loss as the WT are taking this big risk. And if it works out well for Blore and he kicks on, good luck to him and the WT club. I also see it as sort of an olive branch gesture towards the WT after the past dramas between the two clubs. Should ease a bit of tension if it is still there.

The limits on training numbers too make keeping guys once they sign elsewhere difficult

May could have a mediocre year and still get a new deal here. Helps when your best friend is the coach's son.

Different circumstances with him. What will help is the lack of utility players here on the flip side his brother is already at the WT.

No NSW Cup will help guys like May and hurt guys who haven’t debuted

I think Bryce was different. He adapted to first grade quite well, was a matchwinner on a number of occasions, and he even made the Origin development squad, but firstly injuries and then personal matters messed him up, particularly in the head I'd suggest. If this vaxxing business is the final nail in the coffin of his career, it will be one of Rugby League's great tragedies.
