I’m confident we can retain both, perhaps a lot does depend on what happens with Tamou, but I’m confident both players want to stay just need to be able to make them competitive offers even if slightly less than they may get elsewhere.

I won’t be surprised if Whare medically retires. He’s been a great servant to the club, but all of these injuries must be weighing on him.

Retire, free up cap space and take up a role within the club.

At the end of last season when everyone was allowed onto the field, he was sitting up against the southern fence and just looked completely physically and mentally beat. Sure he had just played an NRL game, but you could just tell.

You need to fit a certain criteria to medically retire, I’m not sure he would.

This Toe issue has dragged on for months, they have been trying different techniques to fix it.
I’m not sure about the complexities of qualifying for a medical retirement, but surely he would be able to make a case if they can’t fix it?

Might be worse than I realised, but yeah it has to be career ending. It’d definitely be worth a shot if that’s the way he wants to go. We’d free up approx 400-450k, otherwise we’d probably have to pay to have him play elsewhere.

I would like to see Whare stay on! I know it’s against the grain of a lot of opinions but I think he is invaluable to our young outside backs when it comes to game prep and training. Is he on a little too much for that role... yes but if it helps guide Naden and Stephen to be as potent in defence as attack it’s worth it. I don’t believe he is in our top 17 anymore but if an injury hits I can’t think of a better back up going around.

It’s all about helping us retain Staines & Burton, maybe even Tamou. I’m sure he’d be a great guy to keep around but I’d rather we keep Staines.

Who would blame him? The physical pain they endure over a long career is incredible. So many reconstructions, broken bones, massive corks, stretched ligaments, torn tendons, they deserve every penny they get.

Imagine being on the receiving end of that Kikau grass cutting tackle? He folded the poor bloke in half. I bet he woke up the next day and crawled out of bed calling for his mummy. They would have felt that impact in K Mart in Nepean Square. Even the accidental stuff makes you shudder.

Remember Mansour's caved in face after the accidental knee? It was like a Scorcese movie where somebody took to Mansours face with a baseball bat. The next year we all said "he has stopped jumping for the ball". Well duh! Who can blame him! But, here he is again this season, right in amongst it, rucking the ball up into the teeth of the biggest forwards and refusing to give an inch.

NRL players are the equivalent of the Roman Gladiators. Warriors, all of them. Even Matt Moylan.

I definitely agree if getting rid of Whare means we get Tamou for longer then it needs to happen, when it comes to Staines and Burton they already have contracts for next year but upgrading them should be priority that’s a certain. I’m just not sure what position Burton takes in our 17, I think moulding him into a Materson style second row but it means Martin or Capewell is going to miss out given we only carry one on the bench. Staines is a good one he is a future star no doubt but To’o and Mansour are locked in and I can’t see it changing next year maybe 2022 with Mansour off contract then but I can’t see Ivan dropping him next year unless his form drastically goes down.

Upgrading them will help us keep them past 2021, but Whare is under contract for 2022 as well.

Burton is years away from being able to play in the back row, he’d need to add 15kg. Personally I think that’s the wrong way to go for him anyway, but a good position for him in the meantime if he can’t get the 5/8 role is centre.

Re Staines, I think he takes Mansours spot on the wing next year for sure. A full off season should help him bulk up a bit, and his pace is just too good to pass up. I think Josh would be smart to parlay his recent good form into a contract at another club, I don’t see why we’d sign him past 2021.

I think it’d be great (and probably inevitable) to keep one of them to mentor the NSW Cup kids and fill in for injuries but we need to flip one. As others have said, Sauce in particular would have no trouble finding suitors. Plenty of teams with shit packs that could use being carried.

Out with the old and in with the new(No offence Deano)! Retire Whare and that’s more than enough to keep Burto and Staines if we get a roosters accountant. Keep Sauce around for another year or two to push the youngsters and make them fight for a spot and then retire him and that’s enough to retain Jfh and big Kiks in when they come off contract.

Anyone gets a chance they should punch Charlie’s manager what a dick.
