Money talks. I did warn last week Crichton's extra bump would cost us someone. A mid or a rookie seeking an upgrade.

We are still in it. He is tight with Crichton and a few others. We have one more card to play.

Money talks, but it’s negligent of the club to let Tamou go and release Hetherington before re-signing Leniu.

Honestly I’d prefer to let Crichton walk than lose these other players, centres aren’t worth that type of coin.

That could also go the other way entirely.

Throughout the year our players cited how "tight" the playing group was. Then we let our captain leave, Mansour gets told he's in reserve grade for 2021, lose a bunch of players and now we're under siege.

Yet again our roster management, player releases and lack of tact has left us wanting.

Don't want to go off early but.... heads should roll if we lose a string of these younger guys. How you release players before securing the ones you want to retain is amateur hour stuff.

Oh well, the premiership window was good while it lasted.

That’s a great point. Absolutely farcical let two props go before retaining your preferred option.

Whilst we're still in the hunt, Barrett was key to the strength of the playing group. He was the first domino to fall and it was always going to be possible that players wanted to play under him.

I did say on the 8 November.

]It can be hard to say to a young player please show some loyalty and extend when a popular loyal clubman is shown the door.

There are a few at the club very upset by the way Mansour was handled.

When you’ve got a heap of young, talented players you need to think medium term at least. Retaining those guys is made all the more harder when you’ve got someone on the inside who could talk to them about going to the Dogs.

If the club was good at strategy, they’d already have Leniu and Crichton wrapped up. Their decision to keep Barrett around was amateur hour.

They have been trying for months to get him to stay. The mistakes were releasing Hetherington first and placing his talks on hold over the finals.
He is not gone yet.

I'm at a loss on what could have been done better........

help me out here.

The bloke is 30......

he didn't find out about in the media like some players have in the past.

He was told face to face......

12 months before his contract was due

Surely Josh could see the writing on the wall with these kids comming through.....

Have I missed something......

What could have or should have happened here.......genuine question.

I doubt we make the GF without Barrett.

Barrett being there doesn't explain Laurie going to the Tigers... Just too many teams rebuilding

When I hear "Trying for months" to stay at a club which was finals and ultimately GF bound, yet haven't got their man. There is something wrong.

Raises more questions than it answers.

Gotta think medium term. We have the roster to compete for years, that should’ve come first.

The Barrett thing is just one element of the mistakes. There’s several going on.

Chrighton has a lot to answer for, the domino effect could rip us apart. You have to wonder what the club were thinking not retaining these blokes earlier, too much faith in that they would do the right thing perhaps. This should have been sorted before they let other blokes go. How quickly things change from the elation of this season up until the very last game and since then a complete downward spiral. Ah well, so much for being emotionally attached to a team, as some of you blokes have rightly said......it's a business and money talks. My cup half full has suddenly turned half empty.

If a player is too soft in wanting to stay because Mansour goes... Then they probably lack the mental toughness to be a FGer.
It is part of footy really

It is not that. They see a passionate loyal clubman who has taken less twice over his career shown the door.
They won't make the same mistakes. Cash in while you can before the club is done with you.
