Lets assume we don't re-sign any then we have all that cap space...much better then being stuck with potentially duds if we re-signed too early
Our players are better than anyone on the market hence the ridiculous figures we are facing trying to sign them once they have hit the market.

Not sure how anyone could think we are in an enviable position right now. We have no choice but to lose some guys that were obviously going to be in demand on the market.

Players like Burton you can understand holding off..why are Yeo, Crichton, Kikau, JFH etc. Ever let anywhere near hitting the open market?

We would be better off having a dud or two locked up then facing losing so many guys at once and needing to pay overs which essentially guarantees anyone we unearth in next year or two is gone as the cap is well and truly spent on the guys we had to get into bidding wars to keep now.

Gus mentality was to lock them up and shop them around when you dont need them. It wasnt perfect but it was easily better for keeping players than the current method of letting everyone hit the market and have to match or go close to matching desperate clubs.

Give me a break, now we arw talking gibber, what mansour is on, will cost us 2 players, and plus he is a winger!!! A fkng Winger!!! Seriously he has 2021 to play, he hasn't gone yet, he can still not shit all over the club, and watch staines fail, to then be recalled back up, then he'll earn his extention, but i fear he knows all this and he isn't able to wait or take a step back coz he is petulant, anyone crying over ManSauce shouldn't bother buying a membership next year, as we aren't making top 4 again if he is there, and he is too slow and too expensive for a winger when we need to wrap up our depth aswell as our other 17 first

An extreme way to put it but I agree in principle. Mansour got 9 years including the club backing him through 2 serious injuries and a massive form slump spanning multiple seasons which meant he got to play in a GF. At what point do you say thanks for the memories and effort it's time to secure the next guy coming through?

How is that better when we’re already paying 500k+ for two players to play elsewhere?!

We can’t afford to keep paying to move guys on, Gus model was absolute dog shit. And it’s a big reason why the current management are struggling to keep the guys we want.

i reckon 2 years would’ve been fine. Don’t re-sign Tetevano.
No way!, then we might lose ALL our reserve Props!, how did you figure this out, Tetevano and Leota are extremely important to our prop rotation during the game, so much so, that hethro couldn't find a spot in the top 20, as much as i love hethro, going elsewhere was better for him, i just wish it was with the warriors, as for mansause, his money will go to upgrading those reserve props that we need to keep

What reserve props? Leniu still would’ve fitted in, who else are you concerned about losing?

Tamou could’ve shifted to being a bench prop, he’s a better player than Tetevano.

Depends what you want. If we want cheaper centres go for Burns or Gagai.

Tedesco is still available so there is better still available

I’d be fine with re-signing Mansour if it was to a very minimal contract as a backup, but no way is he a better option than Staines in the next few years. Our backline needs pace, we were blown off the park by the Melbourne back 3 in the grand final. To’o can play the Mansour role.

I think the club should’ve waited a couple of more weeks before telling Josh, to do it 2 days after the GF was poor. Alternatively offer him a new deal as a backup.

Tamou I definitely would’ve liked to see retained, but I’m not sure how far apart we were on money. Part of the reason we’re struggling here is because the salary cap is going down, and on top of that we’re paying guys to play elsewhere.

Blown off the park by 2 penalty goals (assuming Cleary converts his try)? C'mon we likely win comfortably if we played at 50% of what we're capable of. I don't think the GF proved we need to change our current set up to look like another team.

I'm not looking at Mansour re-signing purely for his football ability, Staines may be a better footballing option at this point of his career, but I think the implications are far greater getting rid of Mansour as opposed to letting Staines sign elsewhere for an exuberant amount of money. Mansour is clearly the centre of the playing group & the comradery that flows from that. Giving him the boot (which IMO shows a real lack of loyalty) gives the impression anyone can get the boot, so from hereon in why wouldn't the players look after themselves first & take the cash?

& I'm definitely not saying sign Mansour for what he's on now, but I'd at least make it look like we were attempting to re-sign him or come to a compromise.

How long to you keep putting off superior talent for the off field benefit?

If any of the players don't realise he got 9 years at the club which included re-signing post serious injury then their judgment is clouded by emotion and would never likely be happy with Mansour going unless he retired himself.

It's essentially black mailing the club into keeping a player on as long as they want because feelings.

We were blown off the park when we were down 26-0, the end scoreboard totally flatters us. But I was really talking about our lack of pace to run with them, look at their two runaway tries, none of our defenders got close.

We don’t need to change the whole way we play, we just need a little more speed. To’o and Edwards will still be there to do grunt work.

I take your point about upsetting the team atmosphere, which is why I would’ve been happy to keep Mansour as a backup. But team comrade can’t command selections, the best guys must be chosen for the final 17.

Because the Roosters very rarely lose anyone they want to keep. It’s a completely different dynamic being a long term successful club.

When have we lost anyone we have wanted to keep though? We have high player changeover but often it is to replace them with someone internally.

They have 8 from their top 17 off contract end of the season. Very similar situation to us.

Souths have 5 or 6 key guys off too. Including Latrell and Reynolds

Storm have 4 or 5 key guys not locked up

It is part of recruitment dragged out deals.

Blackmailing the club? He's got a contract which we gave to him & now we're trying to offload him midway through it. I reckon he has a right to be upset at the club for trying to get out of their obligations - if we were in the same position any of us would be. Lets not buy the line 'we're doing what's best for the player', the clubs overcommitted their cap on other players & are now trying to free up salary cap.

Also, Staines has played 2 games & was injured the majority of last year. Lets not act like Mansours been holding him back for years now. Mansour also had a great year & deserved his position, calling Staines a 'superior talent' is a bit of an early crow.
