If Hoppa's camp think they have such a strong case, why are they always going to the media. What purpose does this serve ? You would only do that if you did not think you were in a strong position and wanted the matter to be settled before it went to trial.

IMHO anyway.

If it's true about the signed contract, then they are in a strong position.

You need to understand what a "contract" is at law. Just because you write your name down on a contract and sign it does not mean you've bought my house.

I think what has been said is that there were emails exchanged and Hoppa's manager completed a pro forma NRL contract and wrote in the numbers that they understood the offer to be, then signed it. They sent it to Parra and they just sat on it etc.

So we sent a blank contract to Hoppa? Doesn't make sense. And they put any fanciful figure they want. Is that normal ?

No mate. NRL contracts are pre-printed like builders contracts or leases to rent a flat. Managers would have a bunch in their bag. You just fill them in.

Or how about.....you want it settled quickly so that you can sort out where you are playing next year? Why would you 'only' go to the media because you don't think you're in a strong position? As you know, this could take a long time to be settled in court.

Where in the article (or in any article) does it suggest that Hoppa filled in the terms of the 'NRL contract'? There's no suggestion of that in the article. The article suggests that the club's defense is that there are differences between the terms of the original offer and the NRL contract, but it does not suggest why those differences exist, and certainly doesn't suggest that Hoppa just filled in the blanks on the pro forma.

Hoppa submitting a signed contract in accordance with what he believed were agreed terms was in an article last week or so.

Fact or otherwise, who knows, depends on which camp said it or if the Journo was joining dots and filling in blanks.

If it's true that hoppa signed a contract then we are up the creek without a paddle. We will be paying him to play at belmore. Can't see anyway out of this other than a miracle.

Are we ? What if we didn't sign it ? It needs both parties to sign for it to be valid.

I thought all the stuff about any offers to hoops being overs was all bullshit and that market forces would ensure no one gets paid more than they are worth?

Pure economic models of market forces do not take into account the degree of f**kwitness within an organization.

We pay players to play for other clubs all the time, and have those payments assessed under the cap.

Any amount that we are forced to pay him will be in the form of damages (i.e. the difference between the amount promised by the Eels and his earning power at another club given the loss caused by the fact that other clubs have less cap room now).

if the court rules his contract is valid then he should have to play for us if we're going to be paying him

Eels in game for Jarryd Hayne but manager scotches return rumours

Margie M Donald
The Australian
November 20, 2015 12:00AM

Parramatta added their name to the list of NRL clubs chasing Jarryd Hayne’s signature should he return to Australia from American football but his manager says they will be waiting a long time.

The former rugby league star is not finished with the San Francisco 49ers, according to agent Wayne Beavis, and intends to resurrect his NFL — not his NRL — career.

Hayne was cut from the San Francisco 49ers active roster three weeks ago after playing six games to open the season.

This has fuelled the rumours that the 27-year-old was looking for a return to rugby league where he played for NSW 20 times and Australia 12 times.

Reports in the Sydney Daily Telegraph yesterday said two clubs, Penrith and Sydney Roosters, were prepared to enter a bidding war to secure Hayne, a two-time Dally M winner, with both clubs confident he would regain the great heights he has already achieved in the 13-man game.

Late yesterday, Hayne’s former club Parramatta threw their hat in the ring as well.

“The Eels are very proud and supportive of Jarryd continuing to follow his dreams in the NFL,” acting Parramatta CEO John Boulous said.

“Jarryd was a huge part of our club and made an enormous contribution, and if he ever chose to come back to rugby league, we would love to have him in the blue and gold.”

Hayne made his debut with the Eels in 2006 and played 176 NRL games. But Beavis said Hayne, who is now back in the practice squad, is working hard to prove his worth again to 49ers coach Jim Tomsula.

He quashed any notion Hayne was feeling homesick for league.

“Absolutely no truth in it whatsoever. There has been no talk with anyone, any club, about Jarryd coming home,” Beavis told The Australian. “He’s fully committed to his NFL dream.”

Hayne signed a three-year deal in early March with the 49ers but after some scintillating pre-season form was unable to back it up in the season proper, making just eight carries for 25 yards in six games.

The 49ers lost four and won two of those six games.

Initially, when Hayne approached Parramatta about wanting to play American football, the club hoped to secure his NRL services to them for the life of his Eels contract, which was due to expire at the end of next year.

But that was never agreed to by Hayne’s management. If and when he decides to return to the NRL, he would be a free agent, Beavis confirmed.

Hayne could spend many more weeks on the outer. Last week the 49ers signed 26-year-old Travaris Cadet to the dual positions of running back and punt return, positions where Hayne plays.

Cadet has had stints with the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots and signed a one-year deal to help the 49ers through an injury crisis.

Mate we have f**ked him off.

No court in the world will order an employee to work at a place where he has been made clear he is not wanted.

They will say damages is the more appropriate remedy than specific performance.

It depends what is actually in the statement of claims, if you read the article it states there is no values mentioned on Hoppa's claim
