We had a squad size of 40 this year, how would we significantly increase on that?

At the start of the year we had a squad of 40 so I don't know how we could significantly increase on that. We currently have 35 players announced, so for a significant increase you think there would be at least 10 more players to be in the first grade squad. Add in Aloiai, Twal, Cornish (maybe), Tanginoa (maybe), Robinson (Maybe), Grant (Maybe), Mystery Outside Back and you have a slight increase on the 40 but nothing significant.

Am I being pedantic over a choice of words, or are we actually going to see a significant increase on the squad size of 40 that we had this year?

Yeah we did have a pretty big squad this year. A couple of times we had fulltime contracted players in the Ron Massey Cup. We had 38 named (though ZDC was eligible for under 20s and never played first grade) and 28 of those appeared in the NRL.

As you say, we have 35 on the books for next year and that doesn't include any unofficial external signings (e.g. Cornish, Tanginoa) or unannounced promotions (e.g. Aloiai, Davis). It does include Bevan French though, because his extension was officially announced. However, he is still eligible for NYC next year.

Penna and Grima would be very good additions to our coaching staff I think. I was disappointed when we lost Holbrook after one year. Think he is a very talented coach. The addition of Penna and Grima should improve our lower grades.

Good news IMO regarding Penna and Grima, we dropped the ball in regards to coaching at the lower levels this season good to see the club has rectified this.

Holbrook chose the Roosters for the same reason - assistant coach of an NRL team is a much better gig than head coach of state cup or NYC.

Yes, but you don't get much choice in the matter. I think they do it straight after baptism (which they do before you are 10 or so).

As if most Christian children get a choice in the matter about being confirmed.
