Sounds about correct then. Ryan would have been on about 300k a year meaning whoever said combined they'd freed up 500k salary cap space is spot on.

not when they said Ryan's contract was front loaded and he was playing for 0 cap space for this year. I think it was himself and Patten they front loaded

Let's say they have 500k then, they apparently offereing Hopoate 400k and there is no way they would be offereing less than 250-300k a year to James Graham.

That was back in 2008... they would have frontloaded his 2009 payment into 2008 but they didn't frontload his entire new 3 year contract into 2008.

Read the article again. It says the Dogs are offering 750k over 3 years for Hopoate which is 250k a season not 400k. They also have other off contract players like Stagg and Turner who they may or may not choose to re-sign.

They restructured his cap so that in 2008, because of SBW and others all leaving that the gross payment of his and Patten's contracts were made in 2008. For instance - if his contract was 1 million over three years it was restuctured so that his contract was paid as $600,000 for 2008 and $200,000 over the next two seasons.

Idris is a better player and more markeable at this stage. Hopoate will be a better player in the long term.

Yeah I'm aware of what they did, I was merely pointing out that they didn't frontload his ENTIRE contract into the 2008 salary cap but they staggered it. So he does count somewhat under the salary cap for this year not zilch as what was suggested.

Maybe - Maybe not
Idirs is still only 20..a lot of improvement left in him too

Carrying the gut that Idris does at 20 is a worry.

By 25 he'll be a fat loafer, won't be able to play centers anymore and we'll see if he can shift to the front row.
Defensively he'd struggle there IMO.

Idris is a back rower in the making. He even played a few games for the Bulldogs in the backrow at the end of last year. No way is he going to be a career centre.
