I’d be fine with a deal for the balance of 2025 but nothing more than that. He’s the closest thing to a TPJ signing. Remember TPJ has a pretty dreadful and selfish attitude as well but the club saw a role for him in that situation and nailed it. If they saw similar in Matto I’d back them to make the assessment.

That's because knights are too stupid and don't give him the ball enough. And when he does get it and he's able to offload there's nobody there to back him up

Sure but a lot of your best juniors come from local catchment's. So they would of been discovered regardless I think. Credit for guys like Kikua,Peachey
He also made some poor signings with some silly 5yr deals.
Whare,Roberts, Idris, Moylan,Bryce, Waqa, Rcg, Hiku, Merrin, Hardacker, and by memory he released Api Korisau after 12mths and I think Gus was analed before he re-signed.

I'd say Gus has great connections to get a few extra $$$ under the table.
I don't think he is a super judge of talent. I reckon a lot of times he goes off half cooked.

On Gould he also needs to be removed from either the Dogs set up or the media. His influence is not only unprofessional its also unfair. He will continually talk up other clubs players value on purpose.

The reason he does this is he knows it will push up their values. It's embarrassing the NRL let it go. In the USA in NFL there is a similar situation with Brady. He is under strict conditions on what he can say.

His numbers when starting would absolutely dwarf our current backrowers . Works hard on the field and has talent. No brainer throwing him something imo. Parra just trying to squeeze him out, nothing to do with ability.

Matto had such a shit 'Me First' attitude that it imploded the entire Eel's culture and their season post Grand Final.

He was THAT toxic. I would not risk having such a dude in the squad just to pump up the numbers in 1 relatively unimportant position.
