Foran and DCE were their best players last night despite their forwards being smashed.
Spot on.
Norman and especially Sandow looked great last night because our forwards dominated, but this is no surprise. Sandow was awesome behind a dominant pack in the two years before we signed him, plus in a handful of performances last year when our pack went forward.
But Foran always goes well. He was good in the first half last night despite his pack getting smashed (though they did have all the ball) and even in the second half he stood up right up until his injury. If Sandow had been playing for Manly last night he would have disappeared in attack and in defence he would have missed ten tackles.
Behind a strong pack Sandow is as good as any playmaker in the game. But when his pack gets beaten he is worse than useless. Meanwhile Kieran Foran remains solid even when his pack gets belted. Even with ruck parity he is very good. That's the kind of conditions you tend to get in big games (forwards cancelling each other out), and that is where Foran has it over Sandow.
