Folau would want 200-300k more than Hoppa and produce a similar effort. Definitely better for cap space if we hang onto Hoppa rather than sign Folau.

I actually heard that Hopa was taking up more cap space than Hayne was. I agree with Ram, we could buy a player for $300k to do what Hopa is doing and perhaps better.

Out of left field, what do you all think about going hard for Latrell Mitchell who plays in the Roosters lower grades? He is a fullback who I really think will be an out and out superstar. Inglis-Hayne like. Anyone who has watched this kid play walks away super impressed.

I know it would not be easy getting this guy out of the chooks coop, but boy is it worth a try. I reckon we should offer him $100k more than whatever the chooks offer and see how it works out. Believe me this kid is special. It would solve our fullback spot and be a lot cheaper then holding on to Hoppa for very little in return vs price.

Plus it would deadset give me a massive boner knowing we finally got one over those arse wipe good for nothing Rooters. They would be livid.

Latrell would be locked up by the Roosters at least until he's 20. If he deserves the contract upgrade they'll give it to him and put him in their Top 25 and he'll play first grade if they think he's good enough to do so. If we're going to give players with absolutely zero NRL experience a big contract why not look in our current 20's to Nathan Davis or Bevan French? They'd be a lot less than Hoppa.

I believe he is off contract at the end of 16, but the rooters are looking at extending that very soon.

The point is he is a great talent no matter what I said about Anthony Watts. By the way, it wasn't talent that let Watts down. The kid was very, very talented.

However, Laterall has no such issues and can friggin play better then anyone in our lower grades and he plays in a position we can really use him in. Also at a pinch he would make a great centre too, just like Inglis-Hayne.

You guys should check him out. He is freakin awesome.

I dont think we need too sign too many guys now.Just let the forwards develop and play round with the backs a little.

So we should spend big money on a player that is an unknown in first grade? The reason we've set up the academy is so that we don't have to do that sort of thing, we're past that now.

Dunno Ram... some of the guys you have wanted in the past have been less than stellar....

Like who, Ben Hunt was one I harped about, that I thought I was somehow wrong about, but he has restored my faith by being the most improved player in the NRL. Top 3 or 4 halfbacks in the game now.

I also harped on about Wade Graham, when nobody wanted him, and look at him now. Same with Segeyaro and Fifita, who are just a few that come to mind, when no one else was really rating them..

What if the other 15 teams have an academy too? Wouldnt that cancel everything out?
Sure we have some fine players coming thru, but so do other teams.

Yeah sure. All the winning clubs, scour and raid the best juniors around to shore up their deficiencies. Short of that, you have a losing culture.

F**k this "our juniors will save us", bulls*t. Identify who the best are and make a play, or just settle for mediocrity.

they should. A lot don't surprisingly. But there will always be someone better at scouting. Clubs will also be more attractive than other clubs too, so eventually they'll win their signature.

What do you think we're doing? We beat out 6 or so clubs to sign Bevan French, a highly rated junior from Inverell. We signed Reimis Smith from the South Sydney system and despite being 17 is playing NYC, kind of like what Latrell is doing this year. And do you also mean like how we've signed Jesse Cronin and Travis Turnbull from Newcastle and QLD respectively to our 16's team so that they'll eventually play first grade with us?

Some decent prospects there, but none, in my opinion as good as Latrell. I didn't say we were not doing it, my previous statement was a general one on winning and losing cultures.

As for wanting Latrell, I think he is the best junior in his position in the NRL. We need such a player, and he would be cheaper then holding onto Hoppa, who in my opinion, doesn't come close to offering value for money. Simple.
