I agree-Hoppa offers no value, sure he is a good player but overpriced.
What we do have in 2016 thou is a fresh salary cap to play with really. Guys who are on too much are off contract so if we sign them for too much again its our own fault!

What if the other 15 teams have an academy too? Wouldnt that cancel everything out?
Sure we have some fine players coming thru, but so do other teams.

If the other fifteen teams have an academy we'd be mad not having one of our own then, wouldn't we?

Anyway, not all teams spend so much on junior 'development' (actually scouting and recruitment), but all the best teams do. Manly did up until about 2011, which is how they got Foran, DCE, JWH, Whare and co. Most of Souths' premiership squad played in their under 20s (but most aren't from Redfern). It's the same story for the 2013 Roosters and the Storm squad in 2012.

Penrith's squad isn't actually that good. They overachieved last year, but they are definitely on the up. Their great 'academy' (that they spend a lot of money on) will push out a lot of the stars they have recently bought on overs. That will make them more consistently competitive.

I want to say well coached but they play adlib and that cant work for long or consistently anyway. Kick long, drive through the middle and they will have to crack eventually. Theit pack isn't all that good IMO

You may not rate the Panthers that highly Pou, but they are my smoky for the GF. They are the best coached team in the NRL, and play the most positive and enjoyable footy in the NRL. They are also very good defensively.

They probably would of made the GF last year, but for all those injuries.
I can't see how people don't rate them, besides just being a semi final team.

Well squad not that good- You have reps in
Moylan-mansour-Idris-Whare-dwz, so thats 5/5
Both halves IMO are average but have played origin and won GF's
Segyaro is top 5 hookers in game
Mckendry- NZ international and i think Taylor and lewis Brown is too.
Kites played at the top
Sika manu is average and so is latimore and Plum
Peachey and cartwright are excellent prospects. And IMO will play origin in future.

Its not a bad squad IMO

Now that Daniel Vidot has been dropped by Bennett, and could be shifted into the frontrow by the coach, I would put out some feelers to see if Vidot is unhappy and willing to come to Parra. It could solve one of our weaknesses out wide. The guy is a gun runner and has improved defensively.

He's not the quickest winger.

Watts would have been a good signing, he was really chomping at the bit to play footy.

What weaknesses out wide? I know it's only been 1 round but he isn't going to be a marked improvement over Radradra (3 tries), Taka (good defence & created 1st try), Champion (nothing special but better centre than Vidot) or Robinson (created a try & top notch goalkicker). Unless you were referring to Wenty?

And that is not allowing for Crooks and Folau to make their debut at some point this year so we can see how they go in firsts.

There's a reason why Vidot has been punted by every club he's been at, and in the Bennett doghouse and gone from winger to prop

What does Vidot do for us out wide :?

He can't play in the centres, and makes plenty of errors on the wing. Good at meterage rucking it out from his own end - but Hoppa and Semi are equally good on that front....

How does he help solve Sandow's defensive issues? It isn't possible. The centre outside Sandow will ALWAYS look worse defensively because he has to 'cheat in', until the 2nd rower works over, and then the winger will ALWAYS be 'on an island', but rushing to the opposition winger and leaving the opposition centre for the cover - which is hopefully coming over.
It's not fixable unless we change halfback. And (for now) we need Sandow's attack far too much to make that change.

Since when does the NRL ever use percentages to calculates its ladder?

I dunno. Come to think of it that is the AFL

So is number of tries scored the second determining factor? Or is it alphabetical? I used to think it was alphabetical... anyway, nrl.com have us sitting first...

Doggies any chance of signing Foran or is it a done deal with Parra? Do you think the Doggies need better halves they seem to have poor 5th tackle options and seem frantic at times in comparison to Soward and Wallace etc.
