I can understand the NRL's hesitance to clear Richie, especially after the horrific injury to Alex Mckinnon.
But it seems the Eels have given them everything they've asked for.

One thing though - the SMH article says that 3 out of 5 doctors cleared him. I guess that means that 2 didn't clear him. That's not a good sign.

I agree, hard to blame the NRL for such a tough stance or thorough process. They clearly have the players welfare at heart. But in saying that surely with the right cover and clearances it has to come down to the player and the risk he himself takes on.

There's nothing in either article that says that the NRL have rejected the club's latest application (with additional insurancee) to register him, which only appears to have occurred very late in the week. Interestingly, despite the stories about the requirement for $1m of insurance, the first of the quoted articles on refers to a new policy for insurance for $750k....but maybe that is on top of cover for other issues.

I think it's far more likely they have their own welfare at heart. Let the man play FFS!

If he was a Souths,Dogs or Manly player i have no doubt he would have been playing the NRL since round 1, not sure why it is but the NRL seem to derive great pleasure from bending our club over.........

That's what I found interesting too. They said it has to be $1Mil cover, but the Eels are saying that the $750K cover should be approved... There must be more to it unless the club is footing the remaining $250?

Wish they would just clear him to play. The cover seems fine and meets their threshold.

It's easy to say that mate, but do you seriously think that people at NRL HQ sit around trying to come up with ways to piss our club off? They are just covering their arses in the wake of the McKinnon stuff...their potential liability has become greater as in any future cases they can't claim ignorance of the risk. The articles read like they've been driven by press releases (formal or otherwise) from our club, aimed at stirring the pot exactly as they have done. TThe statement that we've (apparently) only insured him for $750k is curious (given that we were told we need $1m cover).

It's obviously in the NRL's interest that Parra do well....they make more money when we do.

Firstly we have this situation, the Falonk non signing, Charging Fui's son's plane fare against the cap but they let the Storm fly Slaters family down for a big game that didn't get charged against the cap. Charging 30k for the sales of Hindy's book against the cap because he had a Parra jesery on the cover. 9 weeks for Paulo's indecent when the grading was excessive. Peats being stood down for a week when he was charged with nothing while Sutton and Burgess didn't miss any game time, Yeah they really love us, they know we are a deathly club with a big fanbase and we will always stick by our team unlike some of the poorer and less supported clubs....... It's funny but i see a pattern here........

I think you're seeing persecution where it doesn't exist mate. All those examples you gave seem either fair enough or you've obviously got the facts wrong.

I think Eto Nabuli's family got flown out from Fiji last week too. I bet that wasn't included in the cap either.

I have to say Im pretty impressed with Seward. He seems to go about these issues professionally. No doubt the NRL are covering their backsides. More so than concern for the players welfare. They just wish to avoid and potential bad press even at the expense of destroying Richie's future. If all the boxes are ticked he should be allowed to play. If they arent then no he shouldnt. Seward is "keeping the bast***s honest". If we can finally rid ourselves of the Fitzgerald and Spagnolo influence we are certainly moving forward as a professional organisation. Just my two bobs worth.

My friend, it's easy to see a pattern when one looks at what happens from a particular position (and that's fair enough...following a footy team is an emotional thing as much as anything else). But, you do realise that many of every other team's fans think they get ripped off in the same way, dont you? We focus on the minute detail of what happens to our team, and selectively observe bits of what happens to others. It may be natural to do so...but it doesn't make it right.

Take the Peats v Sutton / Burgess thing. The difference from the NRL's perspective s that in the Peats case they had an angry, local, ex-cop father of the 'offended party' threatening to blow the house down if something wasn't done, and it involved a female. With Sutton / Burgess, they got in a blue with a bouncer, who wasn't going to pursue the matter over here. The circumstances are, at the very least, massively different.

I guess the thing is, we can list the amount of times we hamve been dudded, but except for Hayne making the gf after knees in the dogs game, I can't think of any other times where we have received favourable treatment, unlike other scumbag teams
