He's def a left winger. Not sure he is in the top two in the game either.

But you are completely right re Mathew johns!

Surely Goodall, John Folau, Nathan Davis or Lavaka will eventually cement a wing/centre spot? It will be interesting to see who replaces Semi and Champion. If it is either of the above it will be a good indication of the pecking order and what Arthur thinks.

We can as we will know by August at the latest if he makes it or not.
Fair dinkum, can we forget about building our squad/future around Hayne?

He's not coming back during his previously contracted period (this year), and the club has to move on and lock in major recruitment for 2016 well before Jarryd's August milestone.

As Seward said today, we have more money to spend for 2016! It's not going to be on saving a spot/wage for "just in case" Jarryd!

I like this signing as it takes us to the next level where we will have current internationals leading future internationals around the paddock.

Well done to BA, SS and Sharpy.

And don't forget Ricky Stuart who will tell you that he had a big hand in Parra scoring Foran down-the-line.

Then why did he f**king constantly meet with the NRL to have something in place in case Hayne did not make it whilst negotiating with Foran? Mate I knew about Foran a year ago and told many that he was the target. Also wasn't it enough for you when Hayne was quoted as saying that he will never play against the blue and gold unless we didn't want him? Do you think that Arthur is that stupid not to want him if he makes himself available in 2016?

Mate I'm upset that he left too but it doesn't mean we just wipe the best player that has ever played for us and not try and fit him in with NRL assistance if need be.

Wow. Seward met with NRL/Dave Smith most likely to find out how we could spend Jarryd's 2015 contract money - which Hayne was walking away from - without getting into cap trouble. Anything else is part of the spin/hype. Since Seward is smart, part of that meeting would have been to flag the case for marquee assistance if Hayne decides to come back to his existing contract later this year.

At the time, I saw Hayne's quote about never playing against Parra as indicating he is never coming back (to league). Look at his quotes - he's done, had enough, achieved everything he (individually) wanted to. I've seen nothing said by Jarryd or written since that makes me think he will come back to league, later this year or in the future. If Hayne wants to play NRL in 2016, he needs a new contract - subject to the salary cap like anyone else.

Whether we'd offer a new contract for Hayne if he wants to play league in 2016 onwards is a separate issue. I'd say Hayne remains on our books for 2015 with a cap/contract value of $1 (like Menzies at Manly a few years ago?), allowing us to safely front load some of our existing contracts - which directly leads to our ability to remain active in the player market for 2016. If Hayne comes back this year, he will jeopardise that recruitment and planning - for a second season.

August is too late to have not committed our cap money for next year, so it may not be a matter of whether Arthur wants him - it may be a matter of timing not being in Hayne's favour, and Parra not being able to register him under next year's cap if we continue to make signings in the coming months (as Seward has indicated we will).

This isn't "wiping him", it's just putting the interests of the club above the interests of one individual and moving on.

Hayne has unfinished business here. He'll be back at some point.

Just my gut feel.
Gut feels are good, I have a 50% strike rate. :D

Fair enough mate, however Seward is a smart operator and despite what some may think so is NRL boss, David Smith. His return would be massive for our game. Apparently his jersey alone was the number 1 seller of any jersey in the NRL. Daylight second. He is a massive name and talent and that is why IF he becomes available the Eels and the NRL will move heaven and earth to have him back in our team and our game. That I am convinced about it.

If it comes to that (NRL Assistance), I can equally see the NRL wanting to ensure that a draw card such as Hayne can head to a region/team in need of a boost to their rugby league fortunes... Cowboys, Tigers, Raiders, Warriors, or an expansion team?

August is the very latest. The squad gets cut from 90 to 75 in late July and then from 75 to 53 a week later.

If he gets injured I assume he is a goner and will return sooner.

. Sorry the Raiders deserve a laugh.

Can you also equally see that he may return to us?

As for unfinished business... quotes from Jarryd's farewell letter:
The reason I didn’t make this decision any earlier was because of the part I played in getting Brad to the club and the way we finished the season. I felt I owed the Club one more year and I gave it everything I could.
So in late 2013 he felt he owed us 2014 (despite being under contract for 2015).

The hardest thing about leaving the club is there’s stability for the first time in a long time, but I know where my heart lies and I’m following that.
SO following it away from Parramatta.

No unfinished business there... despite the "lifetime agreement" comment, this was definitely a goodbye rugby league letter, if ever I read one.

If he's injured... do we want him back this year? If he gets cut in July/August, wouldn't he stay over there to chase the dream and train to get accepted the next year (by 49ers or another club)?

I'm assuming Ricky might be gone by 2016 .

And no I can't see that he may return to us, for the reasons above.

The club must move on and not save any future salary cap space, or plan a team around an absent, uncontracted player.

Sure hayne said he was DONE.He was emotional and i dare say those Hillsongers filled him up with all there hot air and Piss....
But if he gets cut do you think he retires at age 28? He either goes to rugby or comes back. There is about a 65-75% chance he does get cut IMO
By letting sandow go and using a junior at fullback we are keeping our options open for Hayne to return. If he cuts it then maybe we chase a fullback that available or at worse Norman goes there and Matterson plays in the halves if Bevan or Davis aren't capable (both start the year at 20yrs old in 2016)
If we sign Sandow we rule out HAYNES return if he does decide too come back.
Let Sandow go.......

Is this article also spin?

The two-time Dally M medallist says he has no fixed goals, but won't be satisfied with playing one game. Asked about returning to rugby league, Hayne said his heart would always be with Parramatta ? something he demonstrated in 2013 when the Bulldogs tried to steal him.

"I did get an offer (from the Bulldogs)," Hayne told Seven News.
"For me I've been playing against the Bulldogs my whole life, I had been playing against the Bulldogs since I was 14, they always been a rival.

"For me it's obviously about loyalty, I've been at Parramatta my whole life, I would never do that. The only way I would ever do that is if Parramatta didn't want me."

Bingo.

In a way yes. That quote is a nice set-up demonstrating that there is a way he could play against the blue and golds, and that the circumstance wouldn't be his fault. So going to some lengths to tell people (fans, media?) that this walkout isn't a case of the Sonny Bills (or Jamie Lyon, if people think those year in Wee Waa and St Helens were all part of a plan to leave us for Manly).

One reason we may not "want" him, is if it were impossible to offer Hayne a 2016 (or 2017 or 2018) contract within our allowable salary cap. Any NRL assistance for marquee player returning to the code does not have to go to his former club... and if the NRL is stumping up the money, then the NRL would want some say in where that draw card will be playing.

All I'm saying is we need to move on and recruit a full squad covering depth in each position, regardless of Hayne and not saving space especially for him "just in case".

Bartman -What does he do if doesnt cut it in NFL?
Stay and train to try again to make the cut for NFL in 2016.

Or, sign up for Union in 2016 - here or overseas (Japan/France). This would meet the "new challenge" ambition, grows his personal brand internationally, and a new code would reflect the scope of his talent/athleticism.

It also gets him out of the fish bowl that is Sydney league stardom, and the boredom of having achieved everything he wanted to in rugby league (winning an NRL premiership didn't seem to way on his mind in any of his quotes).

Yawnion is broke in Oz, he may look at a lifestyle and well paid period in Frog rugby.

Not sure that fits with JH, even Gasnier couldn't hack it and didn't he gave a French wife. If the club can come up with a decent offer, and Beavis doesn't get too greedy, his mum will push him towards the Eels

That's my 2 bobs worth
