At some point yes we should. The timing wasnt good for leniu for enough but eventually in a couple years we should be looking to get whoever is our best young prop into the starting side, if that means benching someone else then so be it. Better that than wait to long and end up needing to rebuild the whole pack at once.

That will have to be the case.

Thats why I would of had no problem if Spencer was prioritised over Moses this time round. Yeah we might've taken a little hit in 2024 with spencer in and moses out but we still have a prime yeo and fish, when we get to point when a fish or yeo is getting to old we have a near or in his prime spencer already there to help bring in the next guy. To me doing it that way is better than waiting until they are all past it and taking a massive hit at once, it could take years to come back from that, we could waste Nathans later good years trying rebuild a forward pack because we held on to our core guys just a little to long. .

I kind of agree except Leota was maybe your best player in the grand final. And my guess is he is costing no more then 400k. But that is a guess. Someone more informed would know.

So you factor that with a potential 150k saving it may mean keeping a Liam Martin over a Luke Garner

I'll make a call and say Taylan won't stay at the club unless we some how get Tyrell. To me he doesn't have loyalty to the club. We will rehab him and after that he goes. Just my emotional thoughts

Roosters have just signed Dylan Napa on a 2nd tier contract. Robinson has always been a fan of him.
I would be keeping a close eye on Tyrell. He could go down their pecking order.

Napas' best highlight reel in 5 years is on pornhub, not nrl.com . He's rubbish. But i would take Tyrell, have liked what ive seen in the small amount of game time.

The quality they want from him is being cheap as hell. Contracts like that keep the rep heavy top 17 together.

For an avatar called the realist, you sure have a bleak outlook on our current winning streak...
Mate this is how the salary cap works, if your winning other clubs come hunting for you, everyone wants to win... gould was smart by knuckling down 10 years ago and turning this club into the junior powerhouse it is today, our systems will just create another Spenser, we'll replace another critta, we have lauires and staines falling off trees here... way too many woewestme posts after the news this morning

If the salary cap system created a 'perfect free market' then each team will win 1 divided by teams in competition times a year, currently 1/17 or once every 17 years given a long enough time frame.

Another 'equality measure' would be every club ends up averaging a 8.5 finish on the ladder or ends up with ~ 50% wins / 50% losses. There are a few ways to measure it. The point being - we all know this doesn't happen in reality. In the 'NRL era' which many consider starts around 1999(?) who have been the most dominant teams over the time period?

Melbourne - a bit of daylight - then Roosters, then a little more daylight - then you can make arguments where the chips fall after that (Panthers, Manly, Broncos so on and so forth).

Most of us would agree that Melbourne and Roosters management is what sets them apart. Most of all they seem to have very astute roster management. They seem to pack more talent in their teams for longer. Players will often forsake better offers from other teams to either go to them, or stay with them.

After our 2020-2022 run we were hoping that we would end up being similar - if not in attracting - then keeping our Panther junior 'brotherhood' together. Have those talented juniors take a haircut to stay together and stay winning.

What some of the so called 'wowzers' like me are lamenting is that it just does not appear to be the case and just like the Manly team of 2007-2012 we might just fall back into the pack.

Sometimes more ordinary players have freak games and Leota had one in the Grand Final. Leota is not ordinary, but lets not pretend he is top tier either.

If Haas is 9.5/10
And the likes of Big Papi, JFH, Junior Paulo etc are a 9

Then Leota is probably a 7.5 and at a stretch maybe an 8.

So do I. Sometimes things take longer than expected.
For my own interest Blade; what causes things to take longer? Is it because it is in the player’s (and manager’s) interests to have the negotiation span past 1 November? You would have to imagine that (in the case of the superstars like the four mentioned above) it is in the club’s interest to wrap up the discussion as soon as possible.

Or do I have that wrong? Apologies if I am asking the obvious question.

Money.
The higher profile player, the longer it takes. Some have cap clauses based on future cap rises, rep clauses, bonuses, want cars etc. And the big headache TPA"S. Some stall because they believe they will make a rep team.
Sometimes clubs stall because they need to move someone on for space.

All of the 4 players mentioned negotiations will start over the next 2 months. Yeo sooner.

All players want to maximise their salary and all clubs (the sensible ones) need to be frugal/stingy with the cap.
Usually both sides feel each other out for what they are seeking and offering. If their is a wide gap. The clubs will give the player a bit of time to think. Hoping to meet in the middle.
They can give him early permission to gauge his value.
That can backfire both ways. A surprise suitor happy to pay his asking price, or the player could suffer a serious injury.

The young players are the easiest to re-sign. May and Tago last year were easy. Just broke into the side. Very happy to stay and receive a generous upgrade on their previous salaries.

In Liam Martin's case. Negotiations started May last year. Were paused during Origin, started again. Paused due to a gap in value, paused due to the finals series. Then met in the middle, but finalisation wasn't done till after the WC and Christmas. Started in May last year finished in Feb this year.

To'o was easy. Both sides had a hint of what was on offer earlier in the year. But he waited till the end of the year. His agent had a brief look around, but he was never going anywhere. They got it all done in early December. A little bit of push back for an extra year. No dramas.

Some like to put on hold till the end of the year. They like to concentrate just on footy. Back themselves to perform.

Mitchell Moses is one of the worst examples going around now. The whole thing has been dragged out to hoover up every cent available. I have heard of that many revised offers from the Tigers and Eels it is not funny. Gould knew when to drop out. They think they are getting somewhere, then the goalposts change. Another demand.

You can have an agreement on length and money, then last minute some agents will ask for a rep bonus. Ok agreed, then they will ask for something else. It can go on and on sometimes.

Agents play games and don't get back to clubs. Clubs do the same if the agent is a headache.
Unless it is easy. It really is a bunch of mind games at times between both clubs and agents. Seeking to win one over each other.

Any re-signing news and upgrades?

Thanks for taking the time for a very thorough answer. Very insightful, in a world I have looked at for a long time but never really understood.

The best PROP in the game is Tapine from Canberra.
Jnrs great but his defense in the middles sloppy. RCG overall is probably better.

Yes Leota is probably below the guys mentioned but will Spencer reach their heights? I don't think his defense or work rate will allow him to.
