I'd be surprised if he backtracked.
If the Sharks can't afford to pay the 500K, or even a bit less and give him an upgrade for season 25 to cover the short fill, then I'd say the cap money is designated elsewhere. Plus he probably wants to play in the run on side.
The only backtrack now would be out of emotion, not financial or professional.
