SBW - Bulldogs.

IT would have been unthinkable three years ago, but the Bulldogs are now seriously considering having another crack at getting superstar $onny Bill Williams back to Belmore.

Canterbury is the only NRL club $onny Bill can play for next season under the terms of an agreement thrashed out when he walked mid-contract in 2008.

"I've never said we wouldn't have Sonny back," Bulldogs chief executive Todd Greenberg said.

But the Bulldogs boss insists he would only deal with Sonny and not his agent, Khoder Nasser, who orchestrated the move to French rugby three years ago.

"Time heals all wounds and you don't slam the door shut on anyone," Greenberg said.

"If his next deal is about money, he'll go back and play football in France, but if he wants to test himself again in the toughest competition in the world, he'll come back to the NRL.

"Whoever is coaching us next year will have a view on it and decide whether we show some interest.

"I'd want to deal with him personally, and not his agent."

The Bulldogs still have Sonny Bill under a legally binding agreement that he cannot play for another NRL club until 2013, when his original contract, which was $400,000 a season, was due to expire.

The Warriors two years ago approached Greenberg about paying compensation for a clearance but the deal fell through.

They would consider an amount of around $200,000 to release Williams now if any other NRL clubs were interested in signing him.

"Whatever happens, he's an elite athlete and it would be great to see him back playing NRL."

Williams is a free agent after the rugby union World Cup final in New Zealand later this month.

"I don't want to make a hasty decision," he said recently. "It's not right for myself or my family.

"I've just got to assess the situation after the World Cup. At this stage, I'm trying to push everything away and make everything else irrelevant and just solely concentrate on rugby."

Regardless of how much I don't like what he did, it would be massive for RL to get SBW back. He's a major worldwide name now. I hope it comes off.

I dislike the bus driver as much as the next bloke, but that right there is some classy 'journalism'

On topic, what's this blokes caper? He just seems to go from one contradiction to another.
Great athlete no doubt, but will never reach his potential until he gets his head right (ie get rid of the hanger ons)

Berrigan is an average centre, especially these days. He'll play hooker at Canberra I'd assume, they've been struggling at that position for years.

He's a better centre. His defence is solid. I think he did a good job for the Warriors this year.

Berrigan would be playing today if he wasn't injured.

There have been rumours that the warrriors CEO has been shopping Inu around for the last couple of months.

Yes, I know that there was a rumour that he had been "shopped around" at the Dally Ms, but that's just a rumour and a stupid one at that IMO - "Can I interest you in one Krisnan Inu?". I still so no reason why Inu would want to leave the club early or why the club would want him to leave early.

Heard a whisper that first thing Michael Maguire is doing when he gets back to Australia is meeting Todd Carney, (they have history going back to their Raider days). Based on how that meeting goes, Souths may offer Carney a 2012 contract.

I got 10 fingers and 10 toes crossed hoping this isn't true.

The fact you dont have any halves. You want to throw inglis and your 20's half there.
Shows you f**king need a halfback STAT.

Considering both of todays grand final halfbacks were rookies, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Just look at those players though.

Foran/DCE
Maloney/Johnson

Who do Souffs have?

Sutton/???

Both sides have 2 quality halves. Souffs will have one of the worst 5/8's in Sutton and some random halfback.

LOL@50uff$

Sutton or Inglis.....

That's the big issue. DCE and Johnson were allowed to build confidence in their game by allowing their halves partners to take the lead while they found their place in the team. Souths won't have that option because Sutton/Inglis won't/can't take the bulk of the responsibility until the halfback is comfortable.

Yep. DCE's game didn't really start coming along until the second half of this season.

Souffs will be in the shithole early next season imo, as neither of their halves will be able to control the game. 50uff$ Halfback being too inexperienced and Sutton just being shit.

The Broncos game for memory was the real turning point for DCE. He was filling a role well, but that game he scored a couple of tries, one of them a great solo effort. Almost as if the penny dropped and he knew he could take the game by the scruff if he needed to.

I think Johnson will get the same sort of realisation from the Storm/Manly games despite the loss. He was able to unlock two of the best defenses doing things only he and a handful of players could. Even in his post match GF interview he seemed like a different players. It's a shame the first half of his season was wiped out by injury.

Adam Reynolds was better than Johnson and Foran in NYC. He was better than Sandow at that level as well. Its a big step up to NRL but he is one of the better halves to have played Toyota cup. He will go ok.

But the point is that Sutton won't be able to take the pressure off him as he finds the time to get the feel for first grade. That is why I believe they will struggle next year.

Happy to agree to disagree on that one. Can't remember too much of Foran. Difference will be the support both DCE and Johnson have around them.

Not just at five eight either, but Manly have Ballin and next year the Warriors have Friend, both guys can direct traffic with the best of them. Throw in Stewart and Locke and that's a settled halves.

Souths have

Sutton/Maybe Inglis - Good individual players, but not organisers
Fullback? Will Merritt play there?
Luke - needs to get his own game in order before organising others.

Your spine has massive "potential" but none of those guys alongside Reynolds are capable of controlling the team at this stage.
