There will always be some 'smaller' teams. There are spill over effects at play.....fans of most clubs were pretty happy when Souths came back into the comp. Doesn't mean that everyone survives, but there is value in having some variety in the teams that in the league. Makes a better comp.

Why should there even be small clubs? Splitting the revenue more evenly and enforcing the salary cap (even if it means the Israel Folaus go elsewhere) is best for current fans and potential fans of the future.

This is real tough to say but, poo is right.

Surely at the end of the day, the value of a sponsorship is largely determined by how our team can contribute to the sponsor's brand name capital? If there is a huge difference b/w what was previously 'almost signed' and the next best offer one has wonder wtf was in that deal....or of course, the constant bickering from between the protagonists might have a bit to do with it, as much as what any incumbent has / hasn't done to frig up the proposed deal (unless it was dispute resolution business I guess). Maybe I'm just living on a different planet?

In theory it makes sense, but then in theory so does communism.

I beg to differ, i believe it has been working in practice. We have a tight competition, there really is very little difference from first to last. On any given day any team can beat any other team in the comp, this wasn't the case when i was growing up. The bottom place teams had next to no hope against the top teams. No team has won three premierships in a row in the salary cap era. Imagine being a footy fan while dragons were winning 11 in a row it would have almost seemed pointless to bother.

It is obviously a personal opinion but ill take salary capped sport over non salary capped every day of the week. I also know it is flawed at times and abused but i still believe the proof is in the pudding.
