I wonder if that's because his conditioning has always been to play prop? Short sharp bursts, sub off, recover, rinse, repeat.

I wouldn't want Lussick as the 'high workrate defender' in the squad myself - he's fairly poor in the lateral movement department. We're better off with him in the middle forwards rotation.

from memory liam foran was a solid prospect, if coming I reckon he will nail down the lock position eventually.

Middle half you reckon? I'm sure he can do that (if he does) with the 7 on his back. The upside being that he defends on the edge rather than in the middle.

But I reckon Foran is coming here as a backup for the halves/hooker.

wouldn't rule out mossop in the 13 at this stage, both lussick and mossop can sting with their tackles but mossop being smaller should see him be more agile and run more minutes....

i guess we'll see how mossop adapts

If we play with three props along with three props on the bench they don't need to play long minute

Agreed!

I want to see Lussik in the number 10! Have him put on 5 more kgs and turn into our version of JWH.

I can see Lee mossop playing long minutes in the 13 jumper with Mannah/Lussik starting in the front row with Fui/Jnr P providing big impact off the bench.

If Lussick wants to be the 80min defensive lock that we're looking for, he'd better be training bloody hard over the off season because based on his 2013 efforts he just doesn't have the motor IMO.

Who says we're looking for an 80 minute lock? At full strength we've got potentially five or six props in our top 17. The lock position is one place where we can shoehorn another one in (Lussick), plus most edge forwards can play 80 minutes, and interchanging them breaks up important edge combinations. You're better off making all your interchanges in the middle third. That means splitting your lock minutes between two players, just like with the props.

Wouldn't any ''high work rate ' player , play in the middle? If so lussick whether he plays prop/lock will play in the middle - it just comes down to his minutes on the field. We could play next year with six props , 3 starting / 3 on the bench. Each play will just share the work load while on the field.

Will make it hard to squeeze Sef Paulo, Matty Ryan, Benny Smith & Dan Harrison all into the side if we are carrying 6 props, so it doesn't seem like a good plan to me.

Will we do need two backrowers, but also look at our props for next year:

Fui
Mannah
Peni
Paulo
Mossop
Allgood
Lussick

If we only use 4 props three of the above will miss out, also I reckon the props we have a better then our backrowers.

You also forgot mention we also have Edwards, loko, Manu, Santi, kelepi also has back row options.

Who ever is our coach does have a few options which is never a bad thing.

I'd expect these guys plus Allgood will be lucky to get much NRL next year if we are light on for injuries.

I think Mossop, Mannah, Lussick, Kelepi, Santi, Jnr Paulo, Loko, Moimoi, Terepo as the favoured forward pack ahead of your guys and then you would think if Pauli was to be the player a lot of people think he is, then next year we'd be looking to see a bit of him too?

Our edge back rowers have a ton of potential, lets hope they are ready to step up and play some good football.

i even think a fit and firing ben smith would be a great thing for this footy team.

i think there's scope to turn allgood into a backrower, it was RS that demanded he bulk up. i think his best form so far in his career was when he was lighter.

at the end of the day it's about lateral movement, someone has to defend on the edges and the more boulders we put out there, the more susceptable we'll be in defence......although we couldn't go worse than this year....could we?

Peats, Mossop and a fit Ben Smith could be the key to a much tighter defensive unit.
