Keep digging that hole fellas. When it happens to your club repeatedly I'll bet you'll change your tune, especially if a player does it using the exact same justification principles you are going on about for assistants and why it is, in your opinion, "okay".
I guess you don't need to worry about it happening to your club in the future. You'll keep missing the 8 and other clubs will stop knocking. I hope that gives you some comfort.

Happens to penrith all the time, no sweat, eastern suburbs rosters" seem to hate getting poached, the hypocrisy of it!
now you know how every other side feels when your club goes and poaches their best and brightest from other clubs, which has been happening for ages,
My distaste for how your club operates regarding players going there from other clubs for unders, as opposed to having a local junior Staying for unders.. its unfair on the clubs who have to fork out way overs just to land one marquee player, and this protected species gets Dominic Young and Spenser Leniu, whilst keeping their current crop of marquees intact, then has the audacity to pine over jason ryles looking for a promotion

Happening to my club right now with Flanagan to Dragons. He’s an assistant, now becoming a HC again. Good on him. Happened with Arthur too. I disagree with your point of view entirely, who are you or anyone else to deny someone a promotion within their field.

I think this argument is getting way blown out of proportion now. If the media is to be believed, Roosters put out a job application for an assistant coach. Ryles applied or was headhunted. Roosters asked if he would go the moment a club offers a HC gig, to which he assured them he’d stay the full three year term. A reasonable request from Roosters given the disruption in their coaching ranks these past few years. He obviously lied because he knew he wouldn’t get the AC gig if he said otherwise. Was it an unrealistic expectation from the Roosters? Perhaps but totally reasonable given our experience with Fitzgibbon.

Roosters aren’t blocking anyone’s ambition of being a head coach because they released him immediately. From there he was free to f**k over Saints before joining Storm.

It’s been happening to my NFL team for years
Coaches and assistant gms being pilfered year after year after year
That’s life. Good luck to them and shows the organisation is run well and is identifying and developing good and desirable people

the roosters wanted stability for understandable reasons
But the profession they seek it in doesn’t provide that, especially not for young, high profile applicants who are already being talked about for promotions

the roosters were right to ask him specifically about that, but they were very naive in believing him
They released him and did the right thing so I’ve got no issues with what they did.

if Robinson wants stability in his assistants, he won’t find it by hiring young, up and coming, highly rated people.

You find it with old guys who already had their shot and have settled into their role (and even then it might not work! The raiders tried that with Madge and he’s said to be on the knights radar if AOB gets sacked)

I’m keen to see how Cordner/Friend work out as assistant coaches. I think the loyalty is locked in there but ironically, you want other clubs chasing them or they’re rubbish otherwise lol

Wests Tigers star Luke Brooks has dropped a bombshell on the club after informing them of his plans to leave at the end of the season.

Brooks had a two-year extension on the table from the club but it is understood he informed Tigers assistant coach Benji Marshall on Sunday morning that he would not be taking up the deal.
It means Brooks will head to the open market, where he is expected to attract offers from the NRL and Super League.
“Disappointed,” Tigers chair Lee Hagipantelis said.
“The fact that we made an offer indicated that the club’s intention was to retain Luke. Our desire was to retain him.
“It would have been very nice to have seen him play out his career at the Wests Tigers. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
“He is a seasoned professional, he has been with the club for quite some time, we made an offer which we believed to be a fair market offer, a genuine offer.
“The offer wasn’t acceptable which is fair enough. He is perfectly entitled to make that decision to go out and test the market.”

Un. Believable.

After all of that rope, all of that persistence despite how shit he was for them, Brooks is the one to tell the Tigers to go to hell....

What. A. merkin.
