Rumoured Signings

Look, this has made me realise something. Can I tell you want I want to see?

I want to see Hunt sign with the poor, destitute Roosters for a cut price deal. I want him to absolutely f**ken dominate for them. Lead the try assist, win the Dally M, lead them to the minor premiership undefeated. I want him to wreck the f**k out of the finals series and romp them into a grand final. $1.01 premiers

And then I want him to just play 80 minutes of Dragons footy and then drop another golden point kick off and lose them the unloseable GF.
Sounds like Jason Taylor, 2001.

If Hunt is able to play 2025 at a different club then would love to see him join the mighty Roosters, he'd come in handy for the Roosters start to the season, right now it's looking like Sandon Smith and Chad Townsend will line up, Sandon Smith and Ben Hunt looks infinitely better and a spine of Tedesco, Hunt, Walker and Smith could win a comp.

Unfortunately it seems that the most likely option will be either the Cowboys or the Titans if they have the cap room. I've read a few times that Hunt wants to go back home to Queensland which could rule out many potential NSW teams.
if the roosters want success then they need radley and young to have a word in the ear of mikey lewis during this autumns internationals - break the bank to land such a rare talented young hb - instead of journeymen and reserve graders

Prefer to see him at the Broncos and do that to bookend his career.

We are next to zero chance of pursuing him but if we did I'd happily take your scenario TBH.

Is the part where we say that the Roosters can afford $1m a year Ben Hunt because they've shed Kahu Capper, Dylan Napa and Michael Jennings?

The Roosters aren't a chance to win a premiership in 2025 if you add Ben Hunt or not. Isn't there some ridiculous stat how the Roosters have beaten the Panthers or Storm once in the last 18 games?

Approximately 3.5 Mill of players have left at the end of 2024.

Keary - 800k
Suaalii - 750k

Nah based on the "braniacs" here at LU, you know those pay scales are wrong. This is more likely what the braniacs would reckon they were on -

JWH - A pie and coke;
Manu - A bucket of chips;
Keary - A six pack of beer;
Suaalii - A cadbury's block of chocolate; and
Sitili - A couple of Kraft cheese slices.

My guy, as always (and as someone who lolz at the Sombrero stuff, although it's fun to make certain fans) the truth is in the middle.

Even if those figures are accurate, it wouldn't free you that raw amount from the cap with signings, upgrades, loaded deals, promotions etc. This year there will still be tonnes spare, you'd think, so it's not an issue.

You think we paid overs for Suaalii?

Uncle Nick spotted at Ruben F Scarf picking up a nice polo neck and knitted cardigan. Someone is getting a redemption story....

Thats the 're-signing values' not the 'departing values'.

Yeah the Chooks have struggled to beat the top sides for the last 5 years. Not sure signing one of the worst clutch players of all time will help their cause.

Roosters have struggled against top sides and in general really because we lack a good spine. We've had players like Lachlan Lam, Kyle Flanagan, Sandon Smith, Drew Hutchison, a struggling Luke Keary and others line up as regular spine players whilst Melbourne and Penrith have had the likes of Papenhuyzen, Grant, Cleary, Luai, Edwards, Munster and Hughes, of course we've lost 20 in a row to them.

A half has become available, 20 games of Origin, 15 games for Australia, has single handedly won the Dragons games before, almost 350 first grade games but not seeming to be slowing down or becoming more injury prone, 4 time Origin winner, a World Cup winner. Why not sign him? Because he bottled a grand final 10 years ago and because he lost by a point to a superior team without his halves partner back in 2018? Come onnnn.

At the end of the day a halves combination of Ben Hunt and Sam Walker could win a comp and could trouble Penrith or the Storm. Chad Townsend and Sam Walker or Sandon Smith and Sam Walker is at best going to run 5th or 6th. Ben Hunt needs to be a high priority signing for the Roosters preferably until the end of the 2026 season.

I'm actually open to the idea of Hunt coming over for a year or two but we don't know what a Smith/Walker combination will deliver yet.
