He provided 30 Try Assists FFS. That’s more than Matt Burton and Tom Deardon combined! And they both played more games than Hunt. I get that he shit on the club off the field, tigers fans deathrode Moses for years, but to say Hunt isnt one of the better 7s in the game is ridiculous.
It’s ridiculous if you think a halfback’s only job is try assists.

I’d have loved it if he played 6 or 9 for us for the past 5 years. I genuinely think he’s elite there. But he’s a dogshit 7.

I thought Broncs could only offer him $500k and the NRL wouldn't value him less than $900k?

This is a pretty interesting exercise in how meaningless the NRLs value of a player is. If no one wants to pay him $900k then he isn't worth $900k

The "problem" with Hunt is the disparity between what he is, and what he thinks he is.

What he is? A fantastic attacking playmaker, particularly in the opposition 20, in the mould of, say, Cody Walker.
What does he think he is? An elite traditional dominant number 7 in the mould of Nathan Cleary

He could rack up try assists and tries, but he was not a strong game manager, not a great leader of men, and was often poor under pressure (he's kicked ONE field goal in his entire career, and that was a first half job, not a game deciding one). At the Dragons he held too much power and influence - even under Flanagan - to be assigned to his more suited role, plus they also lacked viable 7 options. Perhaps now, with having his halo slipped and his ego clipped, a more powerful coach can keep him in his lane. The Dragons meanwhile, may lose his try assist stats but it also opens up some possibilities for them. A refresh

Very true. However he also had the second highest mistake rate in the competition, making 43 of them during the season. That came out in the end of season review -

Only Zac Lomax made more mistakes in the NRL during 2024 than Hunt.

Not sure why he was to BE a seven, if you ain't cut out for it, do what you do best and run, he is a 5/8th always has been, trouble is a five-eighth don't need to balloon every set, just chime in and back up your actual halfback, look at luai, perfect example of not overplaying you role, if you ain't the 7, chime in and make sure he can do his job, all Ben hunt wants to do is ballhog, own the play, ffs.. win the game first

That was almost as good as when we swapped Beau Champion for Greg Inglis

I miss being a powerhouse club
Shame he’s not staying longer but uncle Wayne should get them in the top eight at least

There’s not that many good teams it’s easy to shoot up the table
