Wayne has 7 Premierships and what, 1000 finals appearances?
Can someone please remind me what Ivan has achieved besides a GF appearance in 2011?
Im not disputing Wayne Bennett's history or his status as one of, if not the greatest coach of modern times, none of his accomplishments are relevant to this discussion, if it was Tim Sheens would still be an NRL coach...
The question is not about Bennett's history, it's about his future, and i've seen absolutely nothing from him since the Dragons stint to suggest he's not a great coach on a pretty steady decline. The game is passing him by, as it does with everyone.
The Broncos are telling you this too. If even part of them felt like Wayne was still an elite coach, there is no chance they'd be pushing him out the door. That's the club that knows him best, a club that should, given all their advantages, compete for a title and win one every 2-3 years. The bar is set high and they're saying "thanks, but no thanks"
Given the resources at his disposal, his latest stint at the Broncos has been, to be perfectly honest, a failure. This comes on the back of the absolute f**king disaster he threw down at the Knights. No doubt in my mind Ivan Cleary is a better coach for 2019 than Bennett.
If you grade success on the curve of realistic expectations, to me Cleary has been consistently a successful coach. His teams always perform better than expected over the course of the year, where as Bennett's teams of the last 6 or so years have under delivered imo
