Shillo isnt going to come cheap and I'd only look at him if Canberra were kicking the can in some major way, we need a hole running backrower to go with our 20 workmanlike backrowers.

Frankly, we dont seem to have much money to spend, even with an increased cap as our new signings are at the economical end of the scale.

Not sure where we are spending 5.8M frankly.

Uate - 500k
Gidley - 450k
Mullen - 350k
Snowden - 350k
Scott - 350k-500k
Smith - 300k
Sims - 250k-300k

That leaves an average of ~180k each for the other 17 players in the top 25, and dudes like Jimmy Mac, Houston, Mason, and Cuthbo would be getting more than that. Gagai, BJ, McKinnon, Rochow, and Clydesdale would be close too.

I don't think all those figures are quite right at all, but I agree with aqua_duck that there is just money tied up in wasted investments... Gidley being the most notable. Scott at $500k is ordinary too, even though I'm happy to have him in general. Boyd isn't on $500k, more like $400k ($1.6mill over 4 years, I believe), but still doesn't provide that value week-in, week-out. Aku's lack of value has been well documented this year, too... but at least we know that he can bring that sort of value when in form.

I think the rest of those quite are quite alright, really. Smith at $300k is a steal, for mine, Snowy is earning his paycheque, and Sims we probably had to throw overs at just to keep him here (and, while he doesn't provide that value yet, I'd wager that he will in short order).

But, all things considered, if we could move Gids on, drops Scott's contract a bit and get our moneys worth out of Boyd regularly then we'd be in a much better position. Aku I'm not sure... I'd be happy to pay '09->'11 Aku that money without really blinking... I'd like to see him recapture that sort of game-busting form, though.

Keep in mind that on todays player market, top-tier money is getting up towards $1mil+ a year... with "best-in-the-world" being in excess of that. No doubt that contract for Thurston will turn out badly for the Cowboys... he's only worth that money 3 matches a year, and none of those matches are for the blokes paying him.

If he was doing a Joey and carrying his team to the top 4 regularly, then maybe... but the Cowboys don't even average a top 8 finish since Thurston joined them.

Journo's don't know shit about player salaries. They're just guessing, unless there is a direct quote from the club or player. With rep bonuses, back ending, front ending, third party deals, etc., there's no way they could know what a player will earn in a year.

We can speculate on who's the highest paid and probably get pretty close, but if we even get within $100K of what a bloke is earning we've done well.

I think he's gonna have a monster finish to this year. Might not over take Jimmy for try scorer, but I see lot's of linebreaks coming soon from him and helping us enormously.

He did last year after being dropped from Origin. That period where our first 15 sucked, but the next 30-40 of the game was brilliant, he played out of his skin and was threatening every time he had the ball. We could really see that again.

Just a feeling. I think he's showing that he's enjoying footy a bit more and his body language has looked more positive lately IMO.

He won't do much if the ball doesn't go his way. Boyd is great at spreading the ball to the left, but Mullen needs to use his left to right pass a bit more to bring Gagai and Uate into the game. They have been sorely missing for the majority of the games played this season because they aren't getting quality ball. Not sure what the reason behind it is- maybe our boring backrow is stopping the ball from going out to where it needs to be.

Well Gagai's had a heavy workload the last 2 games helping the forwards make hitups. So I'm hoping he reduces that a bit so they get quality ball out that way to make some plays.
