Rumoured Targets 3

I’m leaning toward Crossland converting to hooker permanently because his defence is pretty sound (when he’s not nursing a busted shoulder) and he actually has a decent running game from dummy half whereas in the halves he just looks like a robot that is programmed to pass the ball 5 metres before he reaches the defensive line. Probably the only good play he made this year was when we played the bulldogs in magic round and he went from dummy half and ran straight through the middle of the ruck close to the line and put it on a platter for Leo Thompson to score but Thompson dropped it cold which denied Crossland what would have been his only try assist of the year.

Not saying that he’s going to become a genuine NRL hooker or anything but I just feel like he can focus on his strengths more at hooker than he can in the halves.

I thought that should have been his focus last off-season but instead AOB wanted him training as a 13.

I’m pretty sure AOB will train him as a centre this upcoming preseason.

We had another player like Crossland who was full of enthusiasm but ballsed it up a lot.
He debuted on the wing but was shifted around to centre, half, lock, hooker and off the bench to try and find where he'd fit in.
That was Kurt Gidley.
I'm far from thinking Crossland is the answer to anything but I'm open for him to prove me, and us wrong.

Where do we rank the following 3:
- Mann
- Crossland
- Randall

These 3 are in the running for 14 next season right?

Kidley’s best season under smith was at FB.

Gidley was also eased into first grade supported by a spine of Johns, Buderus and O’Davis. All of our current juniors get thrown to the wolves and expected to thrive.

difference is Kurt had alot more athletic ability. Kurt was more similar to Tex Hoy if you want to make a comparison but with more physicality. Crossland is a sub par athlete, that is half the issue. I can't remember what game it was but one of the outside backs got injured and we had Crossland on the bench but we had to move Mitch Barnett to centre because Crossland doesn't have the ability to cover any of the outside back positions. The reality is Crossland is here to stay, he doesn't have ideal attributes for any position but hooker is probably the position where he's most suited if he can learn to pass off the ground

Kurt Gidley was more Billy Slater than Crossland. I think we are forgetting how good he was.

If prime Kidley was playing fullback for the Storm, Roosters or Panthers this season, he would have killed it.

He would also be an awesome 13 in the modern game.

Yeah impossible to compare Kidley to Crossland. Kids immediately showed a lot of potential when he hit first grade. It took a long time to find him a position, and he always had a bit of Kurt Mann-esque derp in his game, but from the word go he always had a tonne of obvious upside too.

Crossland has zero upside to his game. He's one of the most bland, blank slate, zero upside footballers I've ever seen. I'm truly amazed we gave him another 2 years. Really shows how low on options we are. Here's hoping he develops into something, but I can't see it.

I really hope we sign Hastings to play 7. I might be able to accept Gamble/Hastings combo in the halves.
