Clifford has a lot more first grade experience and has played with a lot of the current squad. Clifford also isn’t as bad as you’re insinuating, he’s just not someone who can be a dominant half as we were expecting of him
He's pretty bad. He was a running error in the semi. He's just a taller Cogger.

If he wants the money they are talking I think it more than fair he goes close to matching him. But we all know the NRL half market is driven up by the lack of availability or Lack Of perceived depth. I think Nicho has a big game this weekend and the Trindall chat dies down fast. Panthers will win but it would be great if they can have a dig. Sharkies can be very physical when they are on. They need to play to that.

How much does he want? If it’s the same money as Cleary or Ponga then yes I wouldn’t touch him.

Drinkwater was worse on ground in that same game, in any case I don’t think you can judge a youngster in their system by how many errors Clifford made in a particular game

Braydon Trindall is second in the comp for try involvements per game if you exclude that one kid who played for Manly and threw the last pass for like four tries in the one game he played. He’s been having a terrific season.

He’s always looked likely to me but he’s really putting it together. Great kicking game (and honestly the Sharks may have gotten run down on the weekend if he didn’t close down the game with some excellent kicks in the last ten minutes), very skillful and varied ball player, and a weirdly dangerous running game for a guy who doesn’t look that quick (I think he might just be one of those guys with a low centre of gravity and are therefore tough to knock over). On top of that he’s a guy who’s always “on”, super active in support, never has periods where he’s just drifting through the game. A half doesn’t score 12 tries in 19 games by accident.

He reminds me of James Maloney a bit even if he’s more of an out and out halfback than a 6. A bit of a late bloomer, doesn’t look as polished as guys like Cleary, Moses, DCE etc (and nor did Maloney vs Cronk etc), but he’s just always making impactful plays. He does come up with some absolute rubbish too (like Maloney), but very little seems to faze him and he tends to make up for it. A footy player in the old school sense.

Sorry, I may have not made myself clear. I am not judging anyone else in my response except for Clifford who is a spud.

If he is stuck behind Clifford do we really want him
I reckon Jake’s just keeping the spot warm for Duffy or that other kid hey.

Clifford looked so good as a junior but I seriously question how hard he works on his game. He hasn’t really progressed as a ball player at all. Still just a big half with a big boot and good athleticism and that’s all.

Yeah, he’s got all the attributes and carves up in Qld cup and has moments where he looks like a world beater but struggles for consistency and to lead a team around.
I believe they have a really high opinion of Jaxon Purdue and can see him as their long term halves partner with Dearden

Yeah I rate Trindall. His combo with Hynes has been hit & miss at times though because they both like to be in charge of the team as a no.7 who likes their hands on the ball. I think he would work well with a guy like Gamble at no.6 though.

As was previously mentioned, he would probably be the one we should go for who could bring the most immediate improvement.

I only watch Sharks games to watch them lose so never really took note of Trindall before but against the Cowboys he looked great. His support play was excellent and all his kicks landed a metre or two out from the goal line. If he usually plays to that level, he would be an excellent addition to the spine.

the panthers didn’t become a juggernaut overnight, they started strengthening their front office
This is exactly my point. Have you not read any of my comments ?

It is quite obvious the club is poorly run. The blame for this falls squarely to the CEO - a fish rots from the head. Change in leadership is the first step towards success.

Case in point is the furor over Ponga - the club releasing a statement without following established due process as written contractually in NRL contracts is amateur hour, and so Newcastle Knights.

The issue with your outlook is you have the mindset that everything can be fixed with one or two changes like punting Adam Elliott and Phil Gardner.
one or 2 changes? what utter gibberish. The most crucial is leadership - the CEO.

As for Elliot - I'm correct, he is one of a number of overpaid players on the roster. I posted same about Dsaf, Hetherington, Brailey long before it become a talking point. Regarding the roster you need a vast majority of the players performing to and exceeding their pay-grade.

A below average journeyman that's reached his ceiling, not exceeding the pay grade is one of the contributing factors to the Knights being perennially mediocre. His money in the roster is best taken by a youngster with high potential - as I'm confident we will see in the coming 12 months.
