If Leo Thompson can get 800k on the open market, surely Lucas wouldn’t be less than that

surely next year if they are loosing both Gagai and Frizell and at this stage only signing old mate from Warriors, surely we can afford him
SOO and Aust backrowers Liam Martin and Angus Crichton are on 750 and 800K . Lucas would be around the 600K maybe 650 mark

Both at big boi clubs playing for unders. And neither are on the open market

my point was that on the market he is worth more than or at least equal to Thompson , especially with two new clubs coming in

in my mind, 2nd row is a much more valuable position than a frf

But that Leo contract is already looking pretty rough. Plus he got it when props were having a bit of a moment on the open market - every team was on the lookout for the next Haas/Fisher-Harris/Fonua-Blake, and for about 16 rounds Leo looked like he could be the next one of those.

Dunno man. Team can be built around a Haas or a James Fisher Harris but doubt a second rower can be that figure.

“Marata is one of the top edge defenders in the game and having played a lot of NRL in the centres, he adds genuine skill and versatility to our future stocks.

Interesting comments from O’Sullivan.

One of the main reasons Marata has been playing middle for NZ is due to his defensive struggles on the edge.
That showed again on the weekend when he was run over by the Storm young buck.

It’s not a bad signing if he’s cheap.

Needs to play middle these days, doesn't have the movement in defence or ball skills which you want from a second rower anymore. Not a metre maker, without stat hunting he's not a post contact metres guy, likes to hit the deck for a quick play the ball. A good guy to have leading the younger guys off the park, which you guys might need, he's well regarded and experienced.

Don't think he will be on big money for you guys, 3 years seems a bit long but maybe the $$ per year came down a bit with an extra year on his deal.

POS signed him when he was with us I believe, on a silly contract mind you, so clearly a fan. We were terrible when we signed him, COVID era stuck in Australia I think, so desperate just to land anyone.
