Won't make an offer until he visits Newcastle, which is being held up because his wife is due to give birth any day.

Toohey was asked where he would play and the response was "anywhere he wants".
Giving a position guarantee is risky and I don't think we would do it. Better to focus on what the club, community and environment can do for him.
Players get shuffled around often but it seems Brown has taken their preference into account. He encouraged Sione to 2nd Row and asked who would give it a go when Gagai tried fullback.

I wonder how Lamb and Cogger are feeling knowing that Ponga is a potential 6, but a way off, and Bird is on the radar. Time to step up boys.
Interesting that Bird played half in the 2015 City v Country.

Just give him Mullen's money and be done with it.

Not that much more if the reports of Mullen's ridiculous back-ended deal are true.

If by some miracle Mooney and Brown snare Scott, Bird and Finucane the team would be an outside shot of scraping into the eight in 2018.

I can't see us getting all those targets but gee it would be awesome if we could.

Bird will be the toughest one to land.

Scott I am quietly confident of and I think if we show Finucane the money we are a good chance.

I think if those two come Bird may follow but he will need to see we are building something to consider it.

Finucane would be a great pickup. His improvement from a so-and-so first grader to one of Melbourne's best forwards last year was impressive and his performances in the finals were outstanding.

I actually think Finucane is going to be the hardest to land. As you say though, money talks!

I will be a bit surprised if he stays in Melbourne. Bellamy knows he is not a rare talent, and that he will be able to manufacture someone else off the scrapheap to fill his role.

Finucane has likely been on a cheap deal his whole life and I imagine would be looking for an upgrade. He is a middle forward so should be less concerned with how competitive the team is.

They have just lost Harris and Proctor though so they may fight harder on Finucane.

I don't think Bird will come if he isn't excited by our on-field prospects.

Newcastle Knights try to lure Melbourne Storm’s Dale Finucane with tour of facilities

Barry Toohey, The Daily Telegraph

CASHED-UP Newcastle has kicked off their sales pitch to lure three-time grand finalist Dale Finucane away from the Melbourne Storm in 2018 by taking him on a tour of the club’s facilities.

Finucane is among a high profile list of Knights recruitment targets for next season that includes premiership-winners Matt Scott and Jack Bird and was in Newcastle on Monday to meet with Knights coach Nathan Brown and head of football Darren Mooney.

The face-to-face visit, that included a look around the city, is an integral part of Brown’s recruitment strategy to drag the Knights out of the NRL cellar and back as a premiership force over the next few seasons.

“The lifestyle in Newcastle is an easy sell but if players aren’t interested in taking the time to have a look around, it probably shows they are not genuine in wanting to play here,” a Knights source said.

“It was a major factor in Kayln Ponga wanting to come here.”

Newcastle faces plenty of opposition for Finucane’s signature with his manager Andrew Purcell revealing the Knights is one of five clubs, including the Storm, who are keen to speak with the fringe Origin forward about his future.

“There is a lot of interest in him and at the moment, it’s a case of him getting to speak to the right people at the clubs he is interested in,” Purcell said.

“He won’t jump into something straight away but he’s open to a number of different opportunities. He’s not going to let it drag on.

“We’ve had a conversation with the Storm and they are obviously aware there is other interest out there and know we are going to go down the road of having a look at what is out there.

“He is 25 and it’s an important contract so he wants to make sure he has a close look at all his options.”

Purcell said Finucane, who has been on the fringe of Origin selection over the past few seasons, is open to leaving the Storm if a better opportunity comes along but denied money had been spoken about at any of the clubs.

“There have been no financial negotiations,” he said.

“At this stage, it has just been about discussing pathways, roles, the direction the club is taking and where he might fit in to all of that,” he said.

“Once he makes a determination on who he is comfortable with, that is when we will pursue the financial side of things.”

So ponga scored a hat trick last night against the blackhawks. A couple longer range try's.

Winterstein also injured, basically means ponga will be starting round 1. Good for him, good for us.
He has to get past Javid Bowen first. Bowen suits the Cowboys style of play more, KP can't hit it up like a forward.
