If we don’t win the comp this year or next we will likely be looking for a new 7 unless we sign up or find a new 6 with his workload no matter how fit Pearce will be burnt out. Overall our squad is strong but some positions are poor in backup such as 7 & 9. We can’t afford long term injuries in our spine, our backline and forwards are very good.

I would have thought the best time to transition would be over the next couple of years with our future halfback playing as a 5/8 alongside Pearce and learning the nuances of playmaking with Pearce to mentor until he retires. This would be the seamless scenario and we have time on our side.

I really do get the "running 5/8 " argument, but I believe Pearce will flourish with another playmaker alongside him .....and 1 that has a kicking game. It's the missing piece to our team.

Pearce's most successful period was alongside Maloney and Robinson identified the need for Pearce to have a Maloney type player outside of him. The GF stats of 2013 show who really was running the show.

definitely agree with this.

Is the Ponga to 6 experiment done and dusted?

If AOB's comments are anything to go by Ponga will stay at FB.

I noticed in a recent interview when posed the question about Tex Hoy's place within the team AOB mentioned the centre position more than once.

AOB also seems to be a fan of Crosslands and had Mann been ruled out I wouldnt be surprised if Crosslands was handed a start.

Hoy seems a little small for a modern centre... Not true?

I like the look of Crossland the few times I’ve seen him play but then again I thought the same of Lamb

I saw plenty from Lamb to know he could have been very good. Unfortunately he made grade in one of the worst NRL teams to ever take the field, partnered with a complete boat anchor at halfback and coached by a coach that really could not develop players or well, actually coach it appears.

I think if Lamb was debuting now things would have been very different.

His offsider ( and IMO the better of the 2 ) Goggar is with the Dogs and cant crack First Grade,

Lamb shank went to the Premiers on a 1 year contract - got a crack at first grade due to injuries and made a mess of it. The Rorters also went out and signed other younger players and it seems had no intention of keeping Lamb any longer than the year.

Surely if he had a flicker of talent they would have kept him on? In a world class set up wouldnt he have flourished?

Very difficult to go from junior footy champion to being a good first grade NRL player. Many try and many fail.

Watching Lamb during those dark years with us he seemed to have the right skill set to be a decent first grader but he seemed to lose his confidence. Probably due to the amount of games we were losing and the environment at the club at that stage. Sure maybe he could have kicked on at the roosters but that obviously didn’t work out either. Sad to see that his first grade prospects are basically done and dusted now.

Thats what I saw, a player whose confidence was destroyed by our rubbish team. By the time he got to the Roosters the damage was done. Cogger wasn't the better of the two for mine.

I reckon it wasnt an ideal debut to first grade for a number of them, but look at the Safs now, Klemmer comes along and shows them the ropes and theyre both flying, skies the limit for the both of them.

Gogger and Lamb knew Pearce was coming and better days ahead for the club. They both had a chance to be tutored by one of the NRL's premier halves and potentially partner him. The difference is they both had agents in their ear, telling them they were worth more blah blah blah......the result is the same as it is for many a young player....Lamb is on the scrap heap and Gogger is not in first grade at a club at the bottom of the table.

Yep, Lamb was offered a big money multi year deal (over 300k per year) and on the advice of his agent decided to turn it down and back himself, ended up saving us from a costly mistake and probably cost himself about $1 mil

Will be a shame to lose Herman but it seems as though the club knows we don’t need him at the price he can get elsewhere.

He has played well, but with Friz coming, Saulo and a few others wanting to take that next step, it was time to leave when i’ve heard there is a deal for 550k a season out there on the table apparently.

Also Adam Elliot is out of Contract, any interest?

Pity about Ese’ese, he offers a bit but salary cap is the problem, think we would like him to stay but wish him well
