The whole Mullen thing would be sentimental and would be a great redemption story but I can’t see how he would have much of an impact on the field. I have no idea whether he’s still in good physical condition or not but he hasn’t played footy for 4 years so I can’t see him even being close to the player he once was, and it’s not like he was Mr. Consistent before the ban anyway. The only real upside I can see is that his body hasn’t been battered and bruised for the last 4 years so in theory he might still have a couple of good years in him and may have gotten past all the injury issues he was having. But I just can’t see how he would be able to play at a first grade standard after 4 years out of the game.

I hope he does manage to resurrect his career somewhere but I can’t see it being here.

Also on the Benji thing, I think it would be a no-brainer if we could get him for cheap for a year ($200K maybe?) because if 2020 has taught us anything it’s that to get the best out of Pearce he needs to play alongside a genuine playmaker. It also would give guys like Crossland & Hoy an extra year to develop with the right leadership around them.

Sure Benji isn’t perfect and his defence is questionable but he’s also defending next to Joey Leilua which surely has an impact, BJ is always making stupid decisions defensively which would make him a nightmare for a half to have to defend next to.

Besides what are the alternatives?

Mann - can’t question his effort but he’s not much of a playmaker

Crossland - would like to see him get a proper go at 5/8 but would he be able to take enough pressure of Pearce?

Hoy - Not convinced he’s a 5/8 at this stage so jury is still out

Lino - has shown good glimpses in the last couple of years but questions over whether the coach has him in the plans or not?

The fact is there is a guy with 300 games experience on the market who isn’t expecting big money and would help our attack quite a lot which has been a big problem for us this year.

You can't blame Leilua when he hasn't been there half the season and you can't blame the centre when he's missing one on one tackles. Generally speaking it's the player outside you that suffers when you rush in not the player inside you so hardly can blame Leilua

If Brisbane cop a bit of the freight I'd take him in a heart beat. He's still only 24 and has over 100 games experience plus origin.
Good thing also is there's no casinos in newie for him to get in trouble at

It's not automatic 4 years, these are the most recent suspensions, half of them are 2 years

He could've copped only 2 years if he named the physio who done supposedly administered the substance

The question would be, is there actually the physio that was the problem, we all know most of the time these blokes say they never did it and look for the out, Well besides Xerri from what i’ve been told, is legitimately the dumbest move in history, absolutely no planning behind it whatsoever.

That's the thing that doesn't make sense to me is if they physio did him dirty why did he sacrifice an extra 2 years to protect the bloke, makes me think there's more to the story than a dodgy physio, let's not forget the overdose and cocaine supply conviction that came afterwards too

Baz said today in Toohey's News that we won't be looking for a Foran or Marshall for next year, looks like O'Brien wants to give the 5/8 position to Hoy.
Just needs him to work on his defence in the off season.

Hoy getting it is fine, can kick a ball, will need to work on his passing, but thats all in natural progression.

Another thought process would be getting a good attack coach, so we can hopefully make that leap that penrith were able to do.

crossland will be the interesting one, hopefully NSW cup is back next year, as at full strength he won’t come close to a game and that will just hurt his development.
