It’s a strange one. On one hand, you’ve got to wonder if O’Brien prefers a Clifford/Pearce combo over Green/Pearce. Probably not. So if he comes here next season, Clifford is a good chance of spending most of the year in reserves.

But if he stays in QLD, does he play first grade, or does the coach go for someone who is there long term?

Guess it comes down to whether or not it’s preferable for him to play reserves for us and form combos/learn our system, or the cowboys and develop under Thurston.

Green won't be starting round 1 next season. So Clifford will get first shot at it.

Quick question:

Is Clifford expected to be a solid NRL half at best or is he expected to play Rep footy in the future.

He might get his go at Origin but he will have to show outstanding ability to wear the 7 for Qld. Munster will be the 6 as long as he wants it. What should bother NQ here is the fact this kid is from Cairns and wanted out at 22 years of age! If this second Brisbane side gets off the ground where do you think young NQ footy players are going to migrate to?

So is he expected to play Origin? Or if he eventually does, it'll be a surprise for everyone?

Too early to tell. Looks a solid First Grader based on his current trajectory. Might be able to make the step up in a few years time.

According to this we're making a play for the Fox:

In my opinion we are well stocked with what you would call reliable wingers like Edrick Lee (now an Origin rep), Hymel Hunt (my favourite player because of his consistency) and Starford Toa.

But in saying that you can't deny the x-factor that JAC would bring to this team. He plays left wing so can you imagine a Ponga, Best and Fox combination in full flight? God have mercy.

I love the X-factor that JAC brings but he would be wasted in our team unless we totally change the way we attack. We spent most of the 2020 season monotonously running one out and only really throwing the ball around in the attacking 20m zone where you don’t really need a winger with heaps of pace, basically a winger who can plant the ball in the corner (which most of them do pretty well these days) or a tall kick target (which we already have in Edrick)

JAC is so successful at Melbourne because they aren’t scared to go wide coming out of their half and he just cuts teams up on the wing with his pace or they kick early for him when they get on a roll in the middle and have the defenders back peddling.

It’s all well and good to sign one of the game’s best wingers but if we can’t adjust our style to get him the ball at the right time and in space then it’s pointless. Our current wingers do a pretty good job of making tough metres and scoring in the corner when required to but we don’t play the type of attacking game to make an express pace winger relevant anyway.

That being said if the interest is genuine then maybe it does point to AOB wanting to overhaul the attack. Who knows?

I think he’s a great winger but I’m not interested in Addo-Carr. More important areas to spend our $, we should be looking to fill the wing spots with younguns or bargain buys
