KNIGHTS SIGN INTRIGUING BRITISH TEEN

The Knights have signed the nephew of star Canberra hooker Josh Hodgson - Bailey Hodgson - a talented 17-year-old fullback who has represented the England Youth team, made his top grade debut for Castleford last weekend.

But the Knights have had their sights on the youngster for some time in the English junior system, where he has been a standout.

Hodgson has plenty more pace than his illustrious uncle and can also play in the centres.

He is expected to play the 2021 season for Castleford before making the big move to the NRL the following year.

PAYTEN HOLDS HOPE FOR YOUNG HALF

Cowboys coach Todd Payten hasn't given up on retaining promising halfback Jake Clifford just yet.

Clfford was given permission to look around at rival clubs before Payten was appointed as head coach for 2021 and is squarely in Newcastle's sights.

The youngster reportedly wants to make the move across state lines - but Payten would be happy for him to stay.

"He has some ability and with some specialist coaching from someone like Johnathan Thurston he could really go to the next level," Payten said.

"He is in demand but we will have to see what happens."

With Michael Morgan missing much of this season through injury, Clifford played 14 games in 2020 with mixed results.

English lad is our new left centre? Really liking it how we signing promising English talent. Doing wonders for Canberra.

Payten seems like a good coach already and if he wants Clifford to stay, probably means it's worth it for us to go after.

I'd mentioned talk of this lad on here a while back. Talk of the UK according to my pals back home. He's a out and out Fullback though, never played centre.
Went from juniors at u16's to first grade. Supposed to be VERY special.

Bailey Hodgson is very agile and plays a lot like KP at the same age. It is great work by the recruitment staff. I am a huge fan of the English player skill set. Their forwards are better at creating second phase and making big plays. I can’t name the last English forward who was an abject failure over here. It would have been a while ago.

Haha... Meant right..

If he is so special, why did we get a fullback? Should start in the wing and then shift to fullback eventually when Ponga shifts to the halves with Clifford?
Assumed so, but I need to correct. It is all I have!

Agree with the potential re Ponga to 6 (years away), but then there is Hoy.

Either way, agree with your assessment about our willingness to recruit Pommy talent.

Very very similar to Kayln. I'm lead to believe he turned down an offer from Raiders and another NRL club to join us so there must be something in the offer that has enticed him to knights?

Good, Roberts is a liability and id be very disappointed if we signed him

Extending Pearce im 50/50 on. We need an experienced half and looking at the market hes still our best option. Id be ok with a reduced deal and a clause in the clubs favour

Bailey is a great insurance policy if KP’s contract clauses are accurate as reported.
