Am having trouble understanding any sign of a plan to at least play finals football.
Not excited about Hodgson, early days, let’s see him play a year, Ponga to 5/8 is likely but will it be better than Mann etc, I hope so, Pearce gone will Clifford be better, doubt it but maybe his overall game might blend better, Brailey seems good, ok, but if injury continues then what.
Think we are strong 2-5 and 13-8 but backup is a bit weak so for a lot of players 2021 is step up or step out. Big numbers for 2022 means more building up, more waiting, I should be used to it

Anyone got the link?

Former Knights centre Pete Mata'utia, who has been at Castleford since mid-2018 and watched Hodgson's rise first hand, told us this about him when we contacted him:

"Bailes is a weapon and we're gutted he's leaving but no better place to go [than Newcastle] for a young fella," he said.

"He's been training with the first team since he was 16 in and out and did his first full pre-season this year and killed it. He would have been the club's long-term fullback.

"He reminds me of Ponga. Right now, he's tough, very strong with footwork as good as Ponga"

"My take on him is if he works hard and the Knights develop him well, he could be the best signing the club has made in a very long time."

And the kicker: "I'd feel comfortable with him there if Ponga was to leave."

That's a massive endorsement from someone that's watched Hodgson at close quarters.

They are recruiting very wisely. Young and Hodgson are guns. They are also insurance should Best or Ponga leave. Zammit is the best in the game at this.

JT has become something of like a halves consultant at the cowboys, maybe learning to kick off JT will be a lot more beneficial for both his future and ours.
Bit each way me thinks, if we get him for 2021 he settles here and has Pearce as his mentor and if not until 2022 he has a season learning from JT, it’s kind of Win Win for us and him

I would personally like to see him learn off JT, as learning off Pearce is a recipe for disaster, Bombs for days.

It’s a strange one. On one hand, you’ve got to wonder if O’Brien prefers a Clifford/Pearce combo over Green/Pearce. Probably not. So if he comes here next season, Clifford is a good chance of spending most of the year in reserves.

But if he stays in QLD, does he play first grade, or does the coach go for someone who is there long term?

Guess it comes down to whether or not it’s preferable for him to play reserves for us and form combos/learn our system, or the cowboys and develop under Thurston.

If form/ability is criteria for selection, we could get my personal choice, in a pairing of Green/Clifford.

I know, I know....

It is a good point. I am fully expecting the Pearce to the Roosters rumours to fire up again if Clifford arrives for 2021. Pretty sure he and KP were the HC halves in 2017 for the Cows.

I thought KP was always a fullback. Interesting to see they were a combo in the youths. Maybe we are trying to recreate that combination again.
