If O’Brien does go I doubt we will ever find out where it went wrong from the club itself. Just a real disappointment cos he was touted as the next big thing for years.
I personally think AOB lost his way. He wasn’t as tough as perceived and he gave into playing his favorites and being too accepting of mediocre performances. Somewhere along the way his standards dropped. If O’Brien does go I doubt we will ever find out where it went wrong from the club itself. His wife has said in an interview that Adam is very close to the players and worries about their welfare above all else. His comments on his concerns over contracts being a stress for players were a red flag. It was like he did not want to deliver bad news. I cannot help but feel he has trouble laying down the law to them with zero prejudice. As a result the players feel too safe around him. Browny by contrast would be hard arsed but perhaps all too late.I personally think AOB lost his way. It’s also true we didn’t have the depth to switch things up, but in the end he created an environment where there was a lot of comfortability.
We need someone who says if you don’t perform, the next person in line will get an opportunity.
I also understand that can create chaos within the club, but AOB got his balance of loyalty/performances wrong IMO.
Look that's fair and I acknowledge that he was at least taking the team up the ladderComplete opposite spectrums of context though.
Nathan Brown built a solid squad for AOB and so far all he’s done is go backwards (not just talking about ladder position).
Brian Smith had the task of building us post-Joey when resources were shit. Our trajectory under him was looking good until the Roosters swooped him away from us.

Thing is at the time when we finished 7th it felt like a big overachievement and a collapse was a whisker away. We indeed slid back down when he left so I guess we'll never know if he was capable of driving the team further or not
With a spine of Gidley, Dureau/Rogers, Mullo and De Gois... Not to mention our forward pack was dog shit tooWe were like 4th when he left, and playing good footy.
With a team spearheaded by Mullo.
3 of those 4 were good players. Not a bad spine at all. With a spine of Gidley, Dureau/Rogers, Mullo and De Gois... Not to mention our forward pack was dog shit too
That spine was definitely quality made up of arguably peak Gidley and Mullen in it. De Gois was touted early as a quality hooker too when he came on the scene. Dureau/Rogers lacked consistency but definitely had moments of brilliance about them. Our forward pack lacked big names. I wouldn't say dog shit is the right description but yeah, Smith handpicked some lesser-known guys from other clubs and got the best out of them for sure. With a spine of Gidley, Dureau/Rogers, Mullo and De Gois... hope so!Haumole Olakau'atu coming onto the market?? We looking at him?

Because we need that money to upgrade Fitzy obviously!hope so!
Why do I feel we’ll be told we don’t have cap space for him.
Smith signed guys who weren’t highly touted but was able to moneyball a good squad somehow. Zeb Taia was signed from parra reserve grade and turned into a quality edge forward, Houston was signed after like 20 games probably would’ve played origin if not for his suspension. Guys like Wicks, Faaoso, Royal, Taufua, Hilder weren’t anything special but were all given a specific role and performed that role well which is more than I can say about our current pack even with the so called big namesThat spine was definitely quality made up of arguably peak Gidley and Mullen in it. I too pine for the halcyon days of B Smith.
The fact that was the last time we had a team to feel any excitement about, and the fact that excitement was so so fleeting... is so so sad.
And yes I know we wont a couple of games in 2013, but we looked dogshit most of the season.
We didn’t really, we were competitive against the top sides in 2013 had a couple of tight losses to the Storm and Chooks in the regular season. Had a 100+ positive for and against. It wasn’t great but better than anything since else from 07-22.I too pine for the halcyon days of B Smith.

That's the problem, people think they were quality. That spine was definitely quality made up of arguably peak Gidley and Mullen in it.
