The media are just literally just making up narratives as they go along, such is their desire to either make us look hopeless or demonise us in some way. You’ve basically got journos saying things that are in direct contradiction to what they’ve said recently.

When we’re letting players go or tapping them on the shoulder and letting them negotiate with other clubs… it’s talked about like it’s a mass exodus where players want to leave and we can’t retain them.

Whenever we miss a signing, we’re hopeless and can’t attract players and KP will leave to pursue a premiership elsewhere.

Then we pull of a coup by signing an elite playmaker and now the coach is a horrible person because he’s hurt the feelings of a fringe first grader, and KP is upset because he’s not on a 10 year deal, and the club has ruined its salary cap for a decade and the whole club is a mess and completely mismanaged.

It seems like we can’t get into the good books with these “journalists” for whatever reason. So at least this time it’s because we might actually be in danger of turning into a successful club rather than the opposite which has often been the case. I don’t mind KP being a bit snippy with the media, the whole thing over the last few weeks has been an absolute shit show stirred up by people with agendas. I kinda hope it gives the players a bit of a siege mentality which could galvanise them.

What's more alarming than media scuttlebutt is the literacy level of the public, unable to discern reporting from opinion articles.

It blows my mind how influential an opinion is because it's on the internet.

Who can ever forget the FOX campaign that Ponga "stole the Daly M" and didn't deserve it.

Just now on Foxleague they brought up a comment Stacey Jones apparently said. He’d love to get KP in a Kiwi jersey. They drooled about it for 10 minutes occasionally dropping in “it’s against the rules”
Watch out for multiple click bait stories about this.

How do they manage to play the Tigers again when we play Tigers twice in that time too. NRL draw/10.

Haha just saw Crawley’s article.
The bloke has a head like a mastiff and the brain power to match.
He’s had the shits with us for years because we weren’t grateful towards Bennett for completely f**king up the club.
Like that Obi had a dig at him in the post match presser. I hate when these pricks in the media have the gall to act as if they’re speaking on behalf of the fans.

Hard to blame AOB being short with media types after we are two for two and in a prime position to embed ourselves in the top four in the first half of the year. It is blatant and disrespectful.

Zero Tackle website is the worst NRL site out there. Articles about "Which steak is what club", ranking Brown the 10th worst signing in NRL history without a game being played for us yet and now an article about the Roosters increasing their drive to sign Ponga, implying they will induce him to get out of his current deal. Erm, how can they be trying to sign him now? He's not eligible to negotiate with them before the end of next year. Will the NRL investigate the Roosters for breaching the salary cap rules, if it's true?

Oh we all know they'll just make some BS about how they're not 'negotiating' and they're just making 'enquiries'

I’m wondering if all the KP to the Roosters articles are coming from the Roosters camp as a way to approach him when they’re not allowed to approach him?

If that is the case it’s f**king stupid because it’s all clearly pissing him off.

It is absolutely, 100% guarenteed to be this. It's the Roosters screaming loud and clearly to Kalyn that they're going to throw massive money at him, and that if he's unhappy right now he's more than welcome anytime.

This is what being a little club is in the NRL. It's having the big dogs circle you constantly looking to pick the eyes out of your squad. We won't ever go any real amount of time without hearing about Kalyn and how likely he is to leave us. Not if he stays here his entire career and never says a word even remotely suggesting he might leave. They will always be on this message - as will every jealous fan that watches us and wishes they had him.

I would say Kalyn is about 0.0005% chance to leave before his current deal is up, and how likely he is to stay beyond that is going to come down to our performance as a team over the next 12-18 months. If we're looking likely, then I would say he's a very high shot to stay. Kalyn doesn't want to leave Newcastle. If he leaves, it'll be because he feels like he has to in order to win a premiership. He could not have been any clearer about this over his career. It's all wishful thinking from the media and others, and always has been.

The most notable thing about 2004 was that Bedsy won the Dally M without us making the 8, which is almost unheard of.

I seem to remember 2004 was a year Joey was injured a lot? We missed the 8 but had a few spirited wins without him. I remember the game at Suncorp against the Broncos where nobody gave us a chance and we won by that wonky Kurt Gidley field goal.
