Looks like Pryce might be headed back to the ESL.

I can’t wait for the media drongos who have bought into the Pryce hype to argue that we signed Brown and let go a young gun even though everyone that’s actually watched him play knows that sadly Pryce just isn’t up to NRL standard and definitely still a long way behind Sharpe and even Gamble.

I hope Pryce goes back to the ESL and kills it btw. I know he was struggling to make the starting side over there a couple of years ago but with some NRL game time and training over here I can see him doing well. He has something, and he’ll do much better in the ESL without the set defences IMO.

If you think about it
Gamble
Cogger
Pryce
Hastings

Only of them will remain and the other three cost less than Brown. Crazy how the media is blowing it out of proportion.

He's a very natural ball runner. I'll be shocked if he can't find a career over there. His mistakes won't be punished nearly as hard, defences are softer and his own poor defence won't be magnified as much. It's a shame, I see a lot in the kid but he hasn't progressed much and as you said, he's been surpassed handily at this point.

Yeah I think the fact that no other NRL clubs that we know of have shown serious interest in either of the English lads despite being off contract is pretty telling. I thought at least the Raiders would be sniffing around given their obsession with Knights players and English players.

Saying that though I’d offer KPP a new contract if he’s willing to take a bit of a pay cut. He’s shown to be FG standard where while Pryce did ok in a very very supportive set up against poor opposition he’s never really looked like making a decent go of FG. It’s just such a shame we couldn’t have gotten him into the system earlier on but I feel like trying to teach someone football IQ and basic defensive practices in their early 20s is just too late.

I honestly hope that the club has a backup plan if KPP leaves... because yeah I don't think we should be offering him current contract value to stay. I'd be happy enough to keep him, but is he a $700k+ backrower? I'd be interested to hear why from anyone that thinks so.

We’ve had a pretty poor success rate with English lads the last 6 or 7 years. Only Dom had success, and even that didn’t end well for us.

the Raiders seem to do well with them, only Sutton wasn’t really great, and even with him he was ok with them just sucked at the dogs.

wonder if it’s the weather.

We have all being saying it for years. Finally a spine of quality we can build around which is settled and tied down for a few years. No doubt Kalyn will be happy. He can now run his side as he wants and can get on the ball at will. Good times ahead.

Shame about Pryce. He showed some promise and seems popular with the playing group. He just never took his opportunities and showed his best. Probably doesn’t help he is more of a fullback and he was never gonna get that position here for long so we tried to make him a half.
Wish him well if he goes back to ESL.

Locking down Phoenix was essential and a great bit of business. He’s proven as an 80 minute hooker who can do what’s necessary in that role to facilitate a great attack. He’s proven as arguably the best example of that very valuable modern archetype of a starting 9 who stays on the field and plays lock until he’s subbed off (I reckon all the other guys who do it are worse at actually playing hooker). He’s legitimately giving Kenny, Robson & Grant a run for their money as the best defensive 9. And he can fill in at half when needed without letting the team down to boot. Legitimately just a really good footy player now.

It’s very hard to imagine a successful next five years or so without him as a massive part of it.
