Talk of letting arguably the best player in the game walk is massive LOL's. Our best chance at a Premiership since Joey. He'd walk into a good roster and win a Premiership the next year.

Although looking their age in a well beaten team the loss of Gags and Friz would be devastating, best part of 600 NRL games experience out the door cannot be replaced.
Whilst he is arguably the best player in the game, at this current Rate he is walking out the door for free at the end of next year, as this team won’t be turned around that quickly. Find a club that has great depth in the Forwards, with Stud Juniors coming through, and attempt to get a deal done at the end of the Year, i’d look at the Roosters currently as they are absolutely killing it in the Matts, SG and Jersey.

Hard to fly like an eagle surrounded by turkeys. A rooster is a step up.

Reunite with Watson, they'd have a great spine. Their roster isn't as bad as the media make it out to be, with 4 current SOO players in the pack.

It’s abig call by the Roosters to let him go. But the Rugby guy with a dozen syllables in his name, seems to be an outstanding talent. Roosters are very good at hedging their bets.

The question is, is this year the year they have played a year too long?

It’s clear that Ponga needs as much support/experience as possible.
Newcastle should have kept at least one of Frizell or Gagai as co-captain alongside Ponga this season.

It was O’Sullivan decision to scrap co-captains and appoint Ponga as sole captain, likely to keep Andre onside.

Ponga might eventually grow into the captain Newcastle is hoping for but right now he’s a long way off and it’s affecting his own game.

Personally, I would have appointed the old man as co-captain alongside Ponga for the season.
He has won the last 5 games with the c next to his name.
4 of those games Ponga didn’t play and was out injured.

The only time Ponga has put his body on the line this year was for the Maori All Stars, where Blake Green made Gagai as one of the co-captains alongside Fisher-Harris.

Gagai’s not really a good choice to be captain either. He very passionate which isn’t a bad thing but his emotion consistently gets the better of him and he loses his cool giving away stupid penalties and errors. You want someone that’s fired up, but not so much that is gets the better of them. Ponga is the opposite end of the spectrum. Need someone in the middle. Frizz doesn’t seem like a big talker to me.

Gagai would be fine as co-captain, but not as sole captain.
Having the extra responsibility would make him talk nicer to the refs and less blowups.

In any case, J Safiti could do a job alongside Ponga.
Much like Yeo with Nath.

What are our thoughts on Jamie Humpheys. Looks a great option at 7. Left footed. Built like a brick poo house and is still young.

He’s certainly shown more in a handful of first grade games than any halfback currently at our club.

Can’t see Souths letting him go though given they’re probably preparing for the future.
