It’s definitely a rebuild

letting players go early like dsaf is not to free up cash to sign someone big now. It’s to front load some of the longer contracts so we can sign players later

The second we moved him in the preseason that was the signal right? It's never been about this year. It's a really weird thing in NRL, other sports rebuilds etc are more tolerated. Here every team needs to "feel" like they can win each year.

If he chooses us then there's either a lot more money invovled or he needs his head read.

Maybe its about opportunity to be a starter, maybe he wants to live in a smaller city. Might be a lot of things.

He doesn't really move the needle, but we definitely need middles.

Right, so you line up both deals and execute them at the same time yeah? This happens literally all the time with multi-way deals where players play musical chairs. Much like the deal that's been touted for KPP -> Tigers, Brown -> Us, Galvin -> Parra (not that i think that's in any way likely, but these deals can and do happen). These are absolutely negotiations you can have. We could have had a bloke lined up and ready to sign a deal if the money became available.

Look at the Roosters right now. EVERYONE knows they have DCE lined up as long as they can free the money. We did the deal arse backwards.

Amazingly we freed up the cash to keep Leo and pissed the bed with that negotiation too. So it was a double own goal. f**king embarrassing.

The issue though, like someone else pointed out, is that the Dolphins taking on DSaf wasn’t something that happened instantly or 100% smoothly. The Dragons were initially interested then that fell through, rumours the Dogs were too, initially there were a lot of road blocks in the deal with the Dolphins and we weren’t sure if it was going to get done. Even if we found a suitable replacement, we couldn’t actually offer them anything incase the money wasn’t there if we couldn’t off load DSaf (which was looking likely for a while). By the time he was off the books most clubs had already finalised their rosters for this season and there wasn’t anyone available.

Re the Leo stuff: the damage was done with him before we tried to offload DSaf. Zammit promised him an upgrade and never came through on it. It’s unacceptable and he was never going to stay after that.

On KPP, I do get people wanting us to throw a lot of money at him to keep him now because we’re now really desperate for forwards, but those type of contracts because we were desperate are exactly how we got into this position to begin with.

They really need to hit on Pahulu from the Titans, but he's another kid.

I suppose at least he’s FG ready. We don’t have a lot of those.

There’s never a time where we have a squad with a 2-3 year window to challenge for the title. It’s just constantly rebuilding followed by disappointment.

People shit on Sticky and the Raiders a lot, but they've now been super relevant twice in the last 6 seasons while losing their clive churchill winning marquee player.

Meanwhile we've not been a top 4 side since Joey retired. Every other club except the dolphins has finished top 4 at least once in that period.

We definitely use KPP wrong, but thats also more on the basis that Cogger is absolutely garbage, and Sharpe is still learning his trade, when he leaves, he is going to be a stud running off actually ball players.
