Rumoured Targets 3

The point is the roster is bad. We think it is better than it is.
Indeed, taking off the red and blue glasses the overall roster is average at best ( exactly where AOB has taken us) , in critical spine positions it's below average.

Remember Gus’s 5 year plan that took 10 years in reality for the Panthers?
8 years! Months away from insolvency and closing the doors, to a GF appearance, followed by 4 Premierships on the trot. Juxtaposed to the Wests Group performance with the Knights? 8 years next year- perfectly illustrates an inept Knights management.

And from what we’ve seen so far, matching Wests’ offer would also be insane, even if it leaves us short in the short term. $600K for KPP means that the next time a player like Dylan Lucas or Fletcher Sharpe emerges, you can’t pay him and he leaves. And then you’re stuck with a $600K salary for a below average player.
yep and yep. It also means missing an exciting young recruitment target or the retention of a young player a couple of years from first grade is poached, and the cycle of perennial failure continues.

Agree here. I don't think Sexton is a great target. He's another place holder until someone better comes alone. But AGAIN, it's Sharpe and Brown.
Yeah if Kalyn cracked the shits and requested a release, I'd want to bring in Sexton right now, precisely for that reason - very capable placeholder you can rely on as you give whichever teenage prospect you really like the seasoning they need in Flegg & Cup.

Sexton has shown the odd sign he may have more in the locker than being a placeholder (great kicking game & emerging passing game), and if none of your prospects take the jersey off him you're not slashing your wrists about having him. But yeah it's very unlikely he'll ever be elite.

They had more than half of their best 17 out lol. Drawing conclusions about players from Origin affected games my word.
Mate, he's been average all year but his downside has been covered up by having effective players around him. When it's time for him to step up he falls short. Been his story his whole first grade career

My opinions on Sexton are based on years of his performances, Thursday night was just the latest in a long list. No need for the condescension

They’re now 20-7 since he came into the team last year and they were 5-6 in 2024 before he cracked the team.

He’s not there to “step up”. There’s a reason he doesn’t make a million dollars. He doesn’t have a threatening running game so aside from his very good short kicking, he’s not where the points come from. He’s there to steer them around, help them win field position, and keep them playing their footy. He’s done that effectively.

No one’s saying he’s Nathan Cleary or Mitchell Moses. But there’s plenty of evidence to say he’s a very capable facilitator who makes things easier for their big money match winners.

I can't see the Dogs shedding Burton like I've seen some talk about, he's one of their leaders. Their fullback is a weak spot but I'm not sure Crichton or Burton moving there is the right answer. Probably move Burton to the other centre position if Galvin comes and Xerri is left right out.

If Ponga rumours of him wanting out are true he needs to speak up now, they could go all in on Galvin to partner Brown and Sharpe at Fullback, but Ponga will leave it until it’s too late to say he wants out.

No to Galvin. I agree if he wants out he needs to speak up (although it’s nothing but media speculation) but I’m not sold on Galvin at all.
