Dane had the chance to go to the Roosters a year or two ago didn’t he? I can’t really see him leaving for another club now, when there’s likely even less $$$ on the table elsewhere.

Honestly I’m glad the contract has these clauses in place. No disrespect for Dane whatsoever, he’s deservedly a legend of the club, but it’s not worth paying $400K for him to go around for one more year if that money helps to secure a player who could be a future star for us.

These takes aged like milk, he was our best player last night and I'd sign him just for experience and leadership. Otherwise 2026 is getting a very 2016 vibe, a bunch of kids losing every week

Hunt is fascinating, his first game he looked like he'd never caught a ball in his life. But he's really our best in the air by far. First game nerves?

Trying too hard imo. He was leaping far too early in that first game and it meant his catches were mistimed.

I was more concerned with how easily he was getting dominated in contact tbh. He got folded a number of times

Hunt is only 19 so he probably needs another year or two getting a couple of game in 1st grade and filling out his body before he’s ready to be a week in week out starter. He looks good though, and worth hanging on to.

I think with Hunt I'd rather miss out on Dom. Gives us a better aerial threat, if he can work on his carries he's a hell of a lot cheaper and can be better.

Yeah Dom should be just as good in the air but he 100% would have misjudged his jump and also knocked on for both of the tries Hunt scored.

I really don’t like we’re bringing him back. I was ok with it when I thought Gagai would be around to cover him but that might not be the case. I say we’ll need to put him next to Best but then who covers Marzhew?

I get how popular Dom was here, but also I feel like that ship has sailed. I don’t think we have the coaching staff that can undo all the regression he’s experienced at the Roosters.

It feels odd that we're looking to move Gags on while bringing Dom back, for sure. Obviously Gags wasn't going to last forever, but another 18 months together would have been valuable.

Dane made a statement last night, and you can fall on either side of it. You can ask whether he has that football in him regularly for another 18 months and be cynical, or you can acknowledge his message that he still has something to offer. Personally, I was a bit on the fence pre-game... but he's won me over. I think we're making a mistake if we move him on this year.

Gags was fantastic in the second 40 last night, but also he was struggling in the first half particularly which a fair few people noticed. I still hope we keep him, but on a contract that allows the younger centres to not feel like their paths are 100% blocked. I want to keep him, but at the expense of keeping Votano I’m not sure.

If he keeps up his form from the 2nd 40 last night I think we’ll sort something out everyone’s happy with.

Even when I thought Gags would stay on I still wasn’t crazy about the idea of bringing Dom back though, but this has made me feel worse about it.

Toohey said KPP told the team last night after the win he's off to the Tigers, which we pretty much already knew.

Apparently Melbourne are looking to offload Tui Kamakimica (no idea how to spell it lol)

Surely we make a play?
mmm... beware the Melbourne Storm discard...

We're talking about a coach that can produce NRL players from nothing. When he doesn't want you, there's cause for skepticism. We've been burned by quite a few players that the Storm was happy to let go of in the past.

Tui's a bit cooked I think. I know there's no harder game than a grand final against Penrith, but he was probably worst on ground - worse than the career reserve grader they brought off the bench, cooked Christian Welch who's since retired, and Alec McDonald who's worse than Croker/Jones - and he's not been good this year either. Even when they're winning easy and he's coming off the bench they're still not getting heaps out of him.

What you want to do is find which seemingly mediocre 25 year old plodder they're looking to spend Tui's cap space on, and sign that guy instead.
