We have zero depth and a lack of experience and we can’t afford to give Gagai 400K?

Losing faith in POS by the day. His strategy of giving Brown massive overs and lowballing everyone else hasn’t been very fruitful.

I wouldn’t say haas isn’t “signing anyone”

we are missing a forward leader……..he is literally the best foward of the last 5-6 years and is only like 25yo

I'm torn between him declining versus needing his experience in a squad that only seems to be getting younger. 400k ain't that much. Where are we spending all this free cap space?

Yeah I’m torn by it as well. I’ve made it no secret I’m not as high on Dom as most are, and the only reason I’m ok with him coming back is because he’s not looked awful next to Gags before. Gags gone and all of a sudden I hate that we’re bringing back Dom. Also just selfishly I’d hate seeing him wearing another jersey now where the rest being moved on I could care less about. I still think Gagai’s a quality player unlike the others.

At the same time though there has already been some signs he’s declining. I’m not sure that’s him though or the squad around him being bad. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if we still re-sign him but want to give it a bit more time to make sure he’s still ok to go next year. That would be the smart thing to do, but yeah it’s harder to cop when it’s a club legend.

I think it was a similar situation with Robbie O'Davis. While he was coming to the end of his playing days, the Knights decided not to re-sign him even though he still felt he had a year or two in him. Instead of going to another club, he chose to retire.

I'll miss Woosh.

In a well-beaten side against the Dragons last weekend, he was easily the Knights’ best player and it came off the back of an awful preparation.

He spent the week leading up to the game in North Queensland with his ailing grandmother and did not train, only flying into Sydney on the morning of the match. It’s understood she passed away during the game, and he immediately travelled back and will play against Manly after another limited preparation.

How could you hate the bloke?
He gave Holmes a bath even with everything going on with his nan

I think the thing with Gags is, whilst I love watching him play when he’s on, he’s slowly declining and I would rather let him go a little early and the club put that money towards securing a decent forward. It’s great to have weapons in the backline but we so rarely get to use them given we can’t get a roll-on in the middle. This needs to be fixed asap.

I love Gags. Hope he stays for unders.

I think there’s a good chance he will.

Does anyone actually think another club is going to offer a 35 year old centre 400k? As unfortunate as it is for Gags I think the club knows that.

If Gags can get 400k from elsewhere then I really hope he takes it because that’s good money for an outside back at this point in his career and basically any other club could offer him a greater premiership chance than us next year.

I agree and also think it's crazy that people get upset at not signing a 35yo *centre* for that price. Because the Knights suck this is a damned either way scenario because if they picked it up, people would be critical at spending a half mil on him too.

He'd need to go to the ESL

He has a young family settled in Newie though soI doubt he has an appetite for that

At an educated guess I would think he would limit the discussions to Sydney clubs so he didn't need to move his family.

Could see maybe the Tigers interested if Starford leaves them, but otherwise I don't think any would be willing to plonk the cash on him, as good as he has been for a long time.

Even saying that, spending a year commuting for an extra $100k (basically $1k a week after tax) probably isn't that appealing.

We should be lining him up with something after footy right now, and ask him to go around another year on min as a farewell.... but that would be something a smart club would do.

If he’s going to take unders, he might as well head to Melbourne on a pie and coke deal and chase a premiership next season.
Then in 27 if he’s after one last payday like Bromwich bros, I’m sure Mal would have him at the Bears for a season.

This is what we praised the club for when Gags and Friz were re-signed. Options in the clubs favour to mitigate the risk of their ages. Sure enough, as much as I love Gags and how great he's been since returning to the club, his play is well down this year.

In terms of what we use the money on, poorly spent money is still poorly spent whether there's a lot of replacements to choose from out there or not. Worst case scenario (and I'm not saying we do this), but if 2026 is going to be as bad as everyone is saying we could use it to front-load contracts as much as possible. From memory the limit is 5% which would be around 600k.

Could take a pie and coke deal here and give us the free funds to compete on other signings to plug gaps in the pack, and chase a premiership here....
