Rumoured Targets 3

according to Buzz we are "favourites" for TDS next year. Believe it when I see it.

Yeah I just don’t see why a young guy from Sydney would want to come to the Knights when apparently he has at least 3 Sydney teams after him (and one of them at least is definitely in a better position squad wise than us).

Unless it comes down to money. We have been saving $$$ for a reason.

Id say the only longer odds than us would be the Cowboys (or the Tigers keeping him after all this).

According to Fox we were the ones that squashed the TDS/KPP swap when it was offered by the Tigers (not surprising considering we still have Brailey on the books this year).

The whole things a bit weird tbh. The reporting makes it sound like we approached the Tigers about loaning him to us for 2025 only and now suddenly he has permission to negotiate with clubs for next year immediately despite being under contract till the end of next year.

I would think we would have said we will sign you and take you early, he wants to explore options, so we aren't interested in a rental.

Might still sign with us, but I really doubt it given the other interest. Sydney kids never want to come here if they can stay at home and play with their mates (unless they are fleeing Mt Druitt).

That’s against the rules though isn’t it prior to Nov? The Tigers are saying their decision to allow him to explore his options immediately was preceded by our approach. Must have gone down some other way than what’s been reported because the Tigers don’t seem pissed off with us.

yeah, who knows. Tigers may have proposed the swap - more likely it would seem.

Benji seems the "dead to me" type when someone doesn't want to be there.

Yeah for all we know he’s been agitating to explore his options for a while and the Tigers took our approach as an opportunity to try and get someone in return for him. Thankfully we probably realised he was more likely to sign elsewhere and didn’t want to risk upsetting the apple cart with KPP for half a season.

Given that "Sully" has been a righteous tight-arse when it comes to almost all of our recruitment thus far (all bar his vanity/passion project signature), it wouldn't surprise me if he's happy to spend big in the spine. He's gotta spend the money somewhere (quite literally, the NRL demands we spend 95% of our cap every season).

Either way, it would only be money that could attract the kid in our direction. Plenty of interest and from much more desirable destinations. Would be nice to get him for sure though.

I mean you can call him whatever you want, but if by being a “tight arse” and not throwing around overs to everyone like we have in the past, he’s put us in a position where we could sign a good young spine player, then isn’t that a good thing? I’m not sure what people really want at this point.

I do like Elliot but Crossland looks like he is doing a better job at 13 in 2 games and is always fit. Can cover hooker as well. Can kick. Wonder if Elliot will get a game again this year if Crossland keeps up the good work.

Given how skinny we are looking in the front row I hope we’re considering keeping Elliot as a bench prop. Offer him less than what he’s on now and play him for 30-40 mins per game next year. He’d be good in short bursts rather than long minutes which he’s played in the past.

I suppose the injury he’s got right now is probably holding him back from getting any serious offers. But in the next few months we could throw some loose change his way if he hasn’t signed elsewhere.

Unfortunately I can’t see TDS going anywhere other than the Dogs or maybe Parra. No incentive for him to leave his current area and pack up and move to Newcastle, unless there’s decent $$$ on offer.

I suspect he will be signed at the dogs in the coming weeks.

Elliot is out for the season with a ruptured pec, so no he won't get a game for the rest of the year

The question around Sully becomes a case of what is ‘overs’ versus what is a competitive contract to extract a quality player from Sydney. We know we have to pay more for the top tier. Canberra have the same problem. But in their case it has worked and then some.
