EELS HOOKER EYES NEW DEAL
Despite turning 32 in December, Isaac DeGois, who originally joined the Eels as cover for Nathan Peats, says he has no plans to hang the boots up at the end of the year.
The hooker wants to continue his career with the Eels, but the club has some work to do financially in order to extend his contract another season.
“I’m not retiring,” DeGois told foxsports.com.au. “I’ll be playing on again. I’d like to stay at Parra.
“The clubs going through a bit but once it cools down a bit we’ll sort out a few numbers. I’ll sit tight and wait til they’re ready and I’ll be right.”
As it stands, the Eels are roughly $100,000 short of where they need to be for the veteran to recommit but discussions between both the Eels and DeGois’ management are continuing in a positive direction.
Having pushed Peats out the door in order to become salary cap compliment for this season, the Eels have been playing DeGois and young hooker Kaysa Pritchard in his place which is likely to be the club’s ball distributing pair for the rest of the season.
The Eels told Peats they were never going to be able to re-sign him which helped promote the early exit but they still need a quality no.9 on their books for next season.
While Pritchard is under contract, the 22-year-old is still raw and limited in experience.
DeGois, a veteran of over 200 first grade games and Portugal international made his NRL debut back in 2009 and is enjoying his eighth season in first grade after stints with Wests Tigers, Cronulla and Newcastle.
