Yes, in junior. But it's not just in losing playing strength.

You have been in denial about junior but he issue best prop by a long way.

We are light in for props anyway, but he is our best.

But there will be a big effect on morale if peats junior and Gordon all go.

They are all a big part of the team culture. That's a big change already and there will be some doubt creep in to the group I'm sure about whether the right decisions have been made.

If we say stand down injured players who would otherwise have played (eg Foran with his issues; Scott wth injuries) the playing roster will be massively weakened.

Then there is the mental side of it all.Even close to our top side is already significantly weakened mentally by the loss of points. That could well get worse as we lose more games.

We were going to have eventually learn to play without them all anyway, why not start now?

You could sign someone before June 30th and pay them the rest of the year, doesn't mean they have to play or even train with the team, provided they aren't under contract to another NRL club of coarse...

I don't believe that you would have to sign them before 30 June if your plan was to not play them. Isn't that what happened with Maloney when he went from the Warriors to the Roosters?

Theoretically if we had cap space in September then we could just pay that person the rest of our cap space?

I'm not sure the player your alluding is going to be able to sign before 30 June in any case.

Didn't Maloney move mid season and got a massive upgrade for the remainder of the year compared to what he was on the warriors?
Then was paid less in the next year or so after.

Nope he signed early in 2012 then started at the Roosters the next season (2013) but the Roosters were able to include a portion of the contract in their 2012 cap. Was genius!

I do believe that they did close that loophole, but that 'loophole' would have involved a player that was already registered with one team in the NRL, moving to another team in the NRL for the following season.

It's possible it could still be an option for someone not currently registered with an NRL club.

We have the person in our club that 'closed the loophole' at the time, so perhaps they're on to something.

That was because the warriors released him from his contract a week or so early which enable him to be a roosters player within the 2012 payment season and they paid him a heap in that period freeing up space they had assigned for him in 2013 for other players

If we're not going to re-sign Gordon and Paulo is leaving, are we not better off playing our planned 2017 squad now and giving them time to play together? It will also give the coaching staff the opportunity to work out what other possible areas we need to improve in and if we should buy some other players.

We won't run into 2nd tier cap trouble if we ask the NRL for approval to play the players, instead of just ignoring the NRL and playing who we like.

Well the one player this particularly plies to is bevan French.

You can see with Mitchell who is arguably a better talent and more developed that he took the best part of half a season to get up to speed.

If the plan is that French be number 1 next season there may be benefit in him starting the process now.

Is French still tiny? Last time I saw him he looked about 80kgs. Needs to put on 10. If you get consistently dominated in kick returns your team is on the back foot every set.

You can't frontload players not already at your club.

So you cant say -

Season one - 600k
Season two - 600k
Season three - 400k
Season 4 - 300k

That is front loading and i know you have said Watmough could be on smaller amounts in 3rd and 4th season as factor in age.

I think Pou meant:

Season zero - 500k (while at another club)
Season one - 350k
Season two - 350k
Season three - 300k
Season 4 - 300k

So you reckon they were just happy to take them off our hands out of the goodness of their hearts???

They are players those clubs needed.

Of course we are paying for them, keep sticking up for these incompetent idiots.

The coach decides who he wants and who he doesn't want, and even if we did have to subsidise them to play elsewhere, who cares? Every club does it. You don't think the Roosters are paying some of Jennings' freight? Manly are probably paying Gutherson this year as well.

Did they change that loophole that the Roosters used when they signed Maloney from the Warriors? You have to hand it to the Roosters they are clever f**kers

If it's in the rules then any club can do it. There's nothing clever about it. You still need the cap space.

Thats all fine and every club does do it , but doesn't make Sharp's comments any less wrong and stupid. The guy is a big mouth and a blow hard, just like his hand picked CEO who you all thought was a genius.

The player will be more inclined to take less pay in future years then you would have otherwise had to pay him

I would say 100% more inclined. The player just wants X amount over Y years to sign with the club, regardless of the exact breakdown per year. If anything he would want more of it up front.

Suppose a player we want to retain asks for $500k over three years, to get close to the best offer elsewhere, if we can give him $100k extra in the current year (because we have the cap space) that means we're only paying him $400k ($133k/year) over the three years of the extension, when another club has offered $500k ($166k/year).
