Rumours and Stuff

The feeling in union circles is he is sounding out the possibility of making Australian team ahead of world cup. If they give him good indication then expect to see him in Super 12 next season with probably the Brumbies. If not, he'll take better playing dollars overseas and walk into Fiji team.

My gut still tells me that he's thinking of doing an SBW, if we sign him, we'll only have him until end of next year

Is playing 7's for Fiji not the same as playing normal union?

No. The Union eligibility requirements were relaxed in recent years - I think you can play for a country (in 7s or normal rugby) if you haven't played test (normal) rugby for a different country in the last 18 months (soon to be 3 years) - so long as you are passport qualified to represent that country.

Jarryd is eligible for both Australia and Fiji normal Test rugby, and as 84Baby said it sounds like Hayne's sounding out which country he has a chance of getting picked for, before deciding whether he plays domestic rugby in Australia or overseas.

Assuming we keep Norman. If we don't sign Hayne, we could probably sign the following top 17 players with his contract/value:

- a decent half ( maybe Hastings)
- another hooker ( maybe Segeyaro )
- another back rower ( maybe fenson / Rochow)
- another prop.

What would make our squad better ?

Please don't sign Segeyaro, if we are keeping Norman...!

If we are keeping Norman, as you said forget Hayne and instead sign:
another half (Hastings?)
another prop (if available?)
use De Gois to train Pritchard up into our 2018 hooker, or sign another mid-way through 2017
I reckon back row can go another season as is (Scott, Ma'u, Moeroa, Edwards)

Have to think about a back up for Semi for next season, in case he is found guilty and out of the game.

I think we need a hooker. I really want Kayser to be the guy we use, but I worry about his injuries and whether he's ready or not. I think if we could get another hooker to work with IDG this year, and develop Kayser for another year that might be best for him in the long run. I agree with Phantom though, not keen on Segeyaro..

Maybe a prop, but I think Mannah and Wicks are good, and with Vave(?) coming from the seagulls might be enough, but then it never hurts to have too many big guys in the forwards.

If Semi is gone I'd make a play at Gagai.
He's under contract but surely would like an opportunity at at club that is at least competing. Newcastle are 5 years away from that. Only have to see him in origin to see the quality the guy brings when surrounded by some talent

Notice the amount of great posts after I posted my exclusive to all you merkins? More footy talk and less rubbish. However some still want to complain and accuse me of talking out of my arse.

Anyway I just spoke to my Roosters contact. I was wrong, it isn't Pearce. He is on a truckload of cash. The highest at their club. We are definitely enquiring about Hastings. Apparently he is also a competent goal kicker.

I have a feeling (This is definitely just a gut feel) that Hayne will not return now.
I never thought Hayne would be back (unless politicians take over our club very soon). I'm sure Arthur would want Hayne back on a reasonable salary but Hayne is looking for a pay day. And we're not going to f**k our cap signing a fullback on huge money. Most of Hayne's value is in winning votes for an incumbent board.

As for Hastings, I assumed it would be him because it makes the most sense.

As I understand it Jarryd can't play for the Wallabies in the short term.

So because of that the ARU will not offer him an ARU contract, so an Australian franchise would need to pay 100% of his contract money themselves without ARU top up. There is no way that the Brumbies or Warratahs could afford Jarryd on their own.

Thanks, i had no idea how it worked.

If he were all about the money, we wouldn't be having this discussion in the first place. The general idea is that he would play a season to prove himself anyway. By the end of the Super season (lol I called it Super 12 before - what is it 2005?) it would almost be about the time he could change allegiance.
It's why I believe we have been a chance to sign him. He can earn more with us than he could playing just super rugby, he can play rugby league world cup next year and then announce he's chasing his rugby union dream

I wouldn't mind Hastings, looked alright last season playing next to Maloney before being tossed to the wolves this season. Good goal kicker too, definitely need one of those.

Hastings has massive upside, could even play dummy half and can kick goals.

Might need an attitude adjustment but I'm sure BA can set him straight.

I dont think players with truely bad attitudes ever get sorted out, not even by the great coaches ... they just end up getting the ass over and over

And ther are different types of bad attitudes ... Its one thing to be a dick away from footy, but not having the respect of your team mates cos u act like a dick at footy is worse - and its rumoured thats been a problem

Is Hastings attitude that bad???? He's still a 20 year old kid, he may be arrogant but there's nothing wrong with that if you are good enough. He could well be good enough, he looked a much better player with Maloney beside him. He has struggled being the main man but he is still just 20. Him and Norman could be an excellent combo IMO.
