Evans was a linebreaker in 2015. He dropped right off last year and seems to be on the outer. Has he suffered a career crippling injury? If he could get back to his 2015 he would offer a fairly unique threat in the middle.

6 linebreaks in 23 games isn't all that much to write home about, tbh. Probably better than a lot of props, but hardly worth the inconsistency and the relatively poor defence.

He'd be an ok signing, but he's not going to push any of our current props out of FG IMO.

Because there seems to be a pattern in our rumoured recruitment for 2018 and Klemmer fits the athletic and playing profile of Kikau and Evans. You could probably throw Ben Matulino in there as well but out of all those names Klemmer plays violent and is a merkin with a hard edge. Look at Watmough (yeah I know it was a disaster), Scott, Ma'u, Brown and even Edwards...you don't think BA covets that?

i meant WE should be signing Cronk and doing anything we can to make it harder for the dogs to outbid us

It feels like an unpopular opinion but Graham's body of work hasn't impressed me at all over the last 2 seasons. The effort is still there but the quality has dipped a long way. In his prime he was a true double-threat at the line and while he made his name in the NRL with his lethal short passes he was also damnably hard to tackle and carried defenders often. He runs more like his stable-mate Aiden Tolman these days, big engine but little impact. He is absolutely better than Tim Mannah but he would also command a much bigger hit on the cap.

If the Dogs are really feeling the pinch in trying to load up a monster deal for Cronk I'd be kicking the tyres on David Klemmer. We want difference makers up the middle. A tilt-the-field presence that demands attention from defenders and still creates opportunities. We might not have any real chance at getting him mind you but there seems to be a specific type of prop we are looking to recruit, as per the rumours of Kane Evans and Viliame Kikau. Klemmer also fits that profile so you might as well send the feelers out.

While I'd also prefer a bigger prop, Graham made 160m and 38 tackles per game in 2016. With the Dogs paying some of the freight (?) there might be a deal to be had. Hard to tell how much of his recent 'style' is down to HAsler.

And his leadership up front can't be understated either. I'd still take him if the deal was right.

Outbidding $1,600,000 (and perhaps a second year on contract) if Matthew Johns is to be believed? Cronk is an incredible player and I would happily throw a solid million and change at him for a one year win-it-all bid but we are in an incredibly unique position with ~$3,000,000 at our disposal to add impacftul long-term pieces to an already strong core playing group.

I would be thinking long and hard before coming close to that supposed offer from the Dogs.

Anybody else think the Storm are on the decline next season. Still the nucleolus of a good team but take 2 good forwards out, Cronk and maybe Slater and that much experience lost in 1 season and it has to decline. Still the Bellamy factor there and their good systems but...

True Baz. That sort of judgement call can only come from our staff doing their due diligence behind the scenes with stuff fans will never know. Like you said, there could be real value to be had there at the right price.

Next year has to be the year where we finally get the players we NEED (not want) to challenge for the top echelon. Cap this year $7.3m (I think) and next year should be around $9m. That's $1.7m more plus we are apparently $0.7m under this year with all our roster now signed past next year. With whoever we let go I reckon we will have close to $3m to spend.
Imo we need 2 big, good props, say $1-1.2m, a decent dh $0.5m, maybe a hb $0.7m and a winger $0.3m. Doable on these figures.

Big chance we will be getting Moses ASAP, Fox sports thinks so anyway.

I'm still not sold on Moses....but there's no denying his potential and our need for a decent half and a first string goalkicker. If, as rumoured, we've got him for less than what the Tigers offered he could be an outstanding signing IF he lives up to his potential. And works on his defence

At the very least it shows BA is serious about building this side.

Six linebreaks is just the times he broke through. It also represents many more disrupted defensive lines and quick play-the-balls.
