I'm not convinced about Gutherson in the halves. Kicking game is paramount for a half, and we don't have a fullback or hooker to take the pressure off our primary kicker.

As for Rochow, he is playing in the middle at the moment.

There are the matters of whether he sticks around (I think he will) and whether he can force his way into the team but King possesses a pretty deft array of kicks for a hooker.

You mean Norman? Which premiership winning teams are they?
Orford in '08, Lockyer in '06, Prince in '05, Gower in '03, Fittler in '02

So none recently. Maybe we do need to move Foran back to the left and replace Norman with a better kicker? Mitch Moses is off contract at the end of next year.

We were moving away from it because both Norman and Foran could not pass effectively from left to right so we had to compromise. However I'm pretty sure Foran was playing right when he scored that nice try for us earlier in the year. Mitchell Pearce has the best left to right pass in the game and would be perfect to partner Norman or Foran for that matter.

Hayne is also good at it but then again there isn't much he can't do.
You don't need to throw Hayne style cut out passes to French every time to be labelled as an effective left to right passer. Thurston isn't a great right edge player either but when a playmaker bobs up on the 'wrong' side it at least makes the defence have to account for him. Norman's been his most dangerous this year when he's taken the line on & when he has switched to the right. That said he also is looking more dangerous because last year all we did down the left was run the same f**king block play ad f**king St George-esque nausem

Norman is an inferior primary kicker than Prince and Lockyer. He is probably on par with Orford and Fittler.

I'd take Sam Williams as a good cheap option but I think he plays on the left. Dargan is a good player and has the most potential we have produced since Hodkinson but he prefers the left too.

Moses will want as much as Norman if he leaves the Tigers.

One thing is for sure with all this talk about acquiring another half,'Hayne is either not coming or playing fullback. It's a shame if Hayne takes the fullback spot away from Gutherson or French. I think they are both ready. Especially French. I have seen him ball play from fullback as good as anyone in the under 20's.

If he does return I always wanted Hayne to play 6 despite his past superiority at 1. I just don't think that aerobically he will handle it after being away for nearly 3 years. BA knows best. He will know what to do. Just don't sign anymore over the hill or overpriced Manly players.

From what you hear fullbacks run a lot more than most players on the park. Sure you have to defend in the front line but at fullback you'd have to cover more ground from returning/covering the back field for kicks. Fullbacks now play both sides in attack on the sweep, but that can be changed with a change in structure.

There may have been more to Hayne's 7's journey than wanting to play in the Olympics. They do a lot of aerobic training. In that 7 minutes they do cover a lot of ground.

I just think you don't like Norman and your dislike is clouding your judgment. The fact is this year we have won 10 & lost 7 and he has been an integral part of it. Yes he is probably wanting a significant upgrade, so it's up to BA to weigh up whether who he will cost to keep him is more or less what we can gain from replacing him. And IMO given players off contract (before even considering which of those would even consider coming to our club) keeping Norman is more beneficial than improving another area at the expense of the halves

Hayne never really had the motor for fullback anyway. The reason he performs well there is because he is so insanely good with the ball in hand. But his involvement is too low to provide that ever present support option that all the top teams get out of their fullbacks.

While he was never Slater or Teddy for energy he easily has the best positioning probably bar Slater and his defence was second to none.
Hayne has footy iq unlike any fullback in the modern era IMO. he will be an amazing 5-8 as well and with Gutho and French being wasted on the wing I think him at 5-8 would be the best fit for the team.
