Because they don't want James Graham
Implying they don't think he's worth anything. He is surely good enough for their top 17, and if they let him go they will need to bring in somebody else. That money comes out of whatever cap space they would free up by subsidising his exit by half a million. It all adds up. Are they really that desperate?

Nelson's omission provides further support of my argument that BA may prefer not to have a second hooker in the 17. He would have been an ideal option to have in the 17 if BA was looking to play two hookers as he can fill in at hooker and also the back row. The fact he hasn't, despite Kaysa's shortcomings is telling.
Brown can also fill in at hooker and back row. He is also top 25, meaning we don't need to commit to the second tier cap so early.

Removing a player they don't think will take them to premiership glory and replacing them with a player they think will improve their chances.
Sure but how much will they really have left to spend after paying him out and replacing him? It's the move of a rebuilding club, not a premiership contender.

These things can move very quickly and have done in the past but I think you might be on the money here. I think that if the Tigers do grant the release it will be after Team List Tuesday next week meaning he has to wait until round 9 to play for us...

Would be weird if he played against us on Easter Monday and then had his recovery session with us on the Tuesday!
Video session could be awkward

The implication isn't that they don't think he's worth anything. They have a choice of having him for a million dollars or not having him and paying him out less than a million dollars. Realistically they would value him less than a million, they got their benefit earlier in the contract (probably) when they valued him more than what they were paying him. It really depends on what they could get in return. If they could get someone in return who they value at a million dollars, but are able to work the contract so that the cap hit next year is only half mill, and can get rid of Graham for half a mill, then assuming they value Graham at half mill or less, they're presumably ahead... for now. But hey if it worked once

Moses may have to wait

Parramatta are expecting Mitchell Moses to be released after this Monday's game against the Tigers. And the likelihood is that will happen, which will coincide with the return of Luke Brooks from a hamstring injury for the Tigers.

However, a number of Tigers officials insist it's not a done deal and there's still a possibility Moses finishes the season with the club before linking with the Eels in 2018. Ultimately, Ivan Cleary will make the final decision – but Moses has handled himself with class since announcing he would be leaving the club. That's made it even harder for Cleary to let him go. If he had chucked his toys out of the cot, he would already be gone.
I would expect Moses to play tot his best ability against us, which would prove to me he is a good team player. His loyalty is to the team even if the team his playing against may be his team the day after. That is what I want to see from him, just hope his team has an off day. However, when was the last time we beat the Tigs? Can't remember but think they are a bogy team for us, a bit like the Titans.

Call for salary cap top up

A few eyebrows were raised last week at the news Penrith had re-signed Dean Whare for another five seasons, given almost every player has been secured for 2018 and beyond. The Panthers have built their roster for next season budgeting for a $9 million salary cap.

While the initial proposal by the NRL is well short at $8.3m, it's expected that will rise after negotiations. Given the uncertainty around the cap for next season, Panthers boss Brian Fletcher has proposed an idea that will prohibit clubs from being sanctioned for minor breaches of the salary cap next year. Fletcher said clubs should be allowed to spend up to $300,000 of their own money on top of the cap to compensate for the NRL's lack of clarity.
So the Panthers hope the cap is $9.3m next year but if only $9m they want a $300k exemption. How they fit their entire squad under the cap for this year is dumb founding. I mean Tamou and Merrin probably take $1.4m between them so how all the rest fit is amazing. As most are juniors probably they sign on for less?
