Rocker Chris Cornell, who gained fame as the lead singer of Soundgarden and later Audioslave, has died at age 52, according to his representative.

In a statement to The Associated Press, Brian Bumbery said Cornell died on Wednesday night (US time) in Detroit.

Mr Bumbery called the death "sudden and unexpected" and said Cornell's wife and family were shocked.

The statement said the family would be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause, and asked for privacy.

RIP Legend. The best voice of the 90's. Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots a close second. They are actually one of only 3 bands from that era in my playlist. The Verve being the third.

Seeing Soundgarden 94 and then Audio Slave about a decade later were 2 of the most memorable gigs of all time and I've literally been to 1000s of gigs in the last 30 years

In the 90's when I finally finished University I wanted to remember the feeling with a kick arse song so I put on "Room a thousand years wide" and screamed out loud with Cornell in my Ford Fairline with a slightly warm Pioneer system that I upgraded the car with.

Seriously sad news, i feel like he was a part of my growing up, from his time in temple of the dog with the mother love bone guys who were the absolute shiz.
