You don't think coaches/selectors have access to those stats?

How do Brown's compare?

I'm not saying they don't. I'm just saying I'd have those stats in front of rep selection which seems for NSW is a mixture of "experience" and if you've been talked up in the media as a state of origin player.

Wouldn't have a clue, personally I don't care.

And I reckon Brown's performance is below that of those guys I mentioned. NSW and Australian coaches / selectors seem to agree.

Unless you have some stats to suggest otherwise?
The point was (firstly) not mine, so maybe direct that question elsewhere, and (secondly) that he could be elite in the future? He'd do a fine job in Origin because he has the intangibles that make a good Origin player, namely he's a nutcase. But I simply asked why rep selection was relevant to judging the quality of a forward when only 8 blokes in a state can be selected for Origin.

Purely out of procrastination and offered without comment, Brown vs Frizell (who is named at 13 for NSW)

Brown (I'll omit the Raiders game because he came off very early and never returned through injury)
Games 10
Avg Mins 64
Avg Metres 138
Avg Runs 16
Metres Per Run 8.6
Runs Per Min 0.25
Avg Tackles 31
Tackles Per Min 0.48
Tackle Effectiveness 94.5%

Frizell (I'll omit round 6, again due to injury)
Games 10
Avg Mins 62
Avg Metres 107
Avg Runs 11
Metres Per Run 9.7
Runs Per Min 0.17
Avg Tackles 30
Tackles Per Min 0.48
Tackle Effectiveness 94.4%

There are dozens of players good enough to get picked for probably half the Origin spots. Of that bunch the ones who do get picked almost always come from teams that win a lot. Then merkins whinge that they have half a dozen Origin players while other teams have none.

The point is both clubs have a handful of fringe Origin quality players but the only ones who get picked come from the strong club.

Alvaro and Mannah and Matagi is not good enough is what I am saying, all 3 of them on our prop rotation is not good enough, Vave makes metres but we need another so what I am saying is that one of the 3 need to go and he would be the one I would be dropping off,I would be playing Terepo, F Pritchard, Edwards and Vave as my bench when fully fit.

If we had a monster in our pack then fine Alvaro is purposeful but he certainly isn't gonna get us to that next level. I am not saying his useless but he isn't setting the world on fire and currently it's one of the things we need, cause it ain't leading us to glory.

Never said his not an NRL player, I said he is not what we are craving and would be the one to drop, pinning all our hopes on him isn't gonna get us very far. He would compliment a metre eater well but we don't have that so having him, Mannah and Matagi is killing us.

Mannah could piss off for all I care all i know is that we need a more damaging toward.

It's no obsession, I am not obsessed with anything but wanting to see us win and do well and having a big body is a key area we lack as well as hooker, just how I see it.

We don't have someone tiring there defences so that when they attack they aren't exhausted from dealing with a handful, there all fresh because no one is attracting 3-4 players in a tackle.

What did you do with Beau?

Good comparison but from what I've seen Frizell plays more on the edge at the Dragons whereas Brown is purely middle.

The problem with stats for forwards is it doesnt take into account how much energy the defender puts in to stop a guy like Jnr. Sure the defense meets him but the amount of energy being sapped trying to stop him from getting a high amount of meters can not be measured by a stat. Just as a big hit from a Josh Jackson cant be measured how much that takes out of the guy carting it up. One good hit can rattle a guy for half the game.

That's bullshit. These are first graders, not children. And while I agree heavy tackles can't be measured by the commonly available stats, the powerful runners do have corresponding stats - metres and tackle breaks per run. They don't tell you anything about any given run, but across a game and especially a whole season, the most powerful runners have corresponding stats for metres and tackle breaks. Obviously you need to compare players at the same position.
